You can go to prison for the crime of breaking out of a prison, too.
Except in Mexico, where they just add the number of days you spent out onto your existing sentence.
Riley's Law?
Tbf there are also certain early TOS episodes that clearly predate the Prime Directive as a concept.
But yes I love DS9, and the "saint in paradise" speech remains one of my favourite moments.
Not spoiling anything but there's a season 4 episode that sort of inverts that Star Trek thing you're on about, and makes for one of my favourite episodes
It finds its pace in season 2, I feel.
Season 1 is very all over the place but has its charm.
And yeah, very aggressively american, in an honest way that lets it do some things Star Trek really can't
Iunno, it's just so weird for me, as somebody who was an out queer in the first couple of decades of this century to see this rewriting of history where the "debate" about gay rights then was this genteel, public spirited conversation. They blamed the gays for hurricanes and earthquakes.
Some people will make you feel stupid for "still" reacting to something that happened "so long ago"-- as if the damage CPTSD does only stems from what happened back then, & not the years of trying to cope & continue functioning SINCE then w/ inadequate support & care.
It was revealed to me in a dream
I just pirate it and then wait til the next bandcamp friday and buy it
New Machinae Supremacy album is out and Rob is telling people to pirate it if they wanna.
Album slaps too
Press Association comment from Quakers in Britain This evening, for the second time in a year, the Metropolitan Police raided a Quaker Meeting House and arrested a number of young nonviolent activists who were meeting there on the grounds that they were conspiring to commit a criminal act. The room in Westminster Quaker Meeting House was let to Take Back Power to hold nonviolent direct action training. Quakers support the principle of nonviolent direct action, which aims to protest without harming people. Oliver Robertson, head of witness and worship for Quakers in Britain, said: βFor Quakers, faith and action are inseparable. Peaceful protest, prayer and nonviolent action are integral parts of many Quakers' religious life. βWhilst we take the planning of criminal acts very seriously, we believe that this incident is a deliberate targeting of committed young people who want to make our country a more equitable place. This raid is part of a systematic stifling of dissent. βThat this is the second time in a year that the police have raided our meeting house dramatically illuminates the broader trend in the UK of cracking down on those who disagree with the government. The right to protest is fundamental to our democracy. It's a key part of how people make their voices heard between elections.β
Statement from @quaker.org.uk about tonight's police raid on Westminster Meeting House. Guys, I don't think they're buying the Met's line about it all being a cover for plotting "mass shoplifting"
The thing that about child safety online is that it is going in the exact wrong direction.
As a kid I had it drilled into me that I was never to disclose my real name, location, age or other identifiable information so that people couldn't groom me.
But that's hard on marketers, so.
Yeag, holy shit
The βCrazy Ass Moments in Gundam Historyβ Twitter highlighting that: In the english re-dub made for the HD remaster of Gundam Seed Destiny, the character of Herbert Von Reinhard is played by Martin Billany, a.k.a. allyβ’οΈ: "what can i do to help trans people right now?"
us: "give us money."
allyβ’οΈ: "wait,, really?"
us: "yes, really. a lot of us are struggling and direct aid is most impactful. i can send you some gofundmes...."β¨β¨allyβ’οΈ: "what *else* can i do to help trans people right now?"
Currently the law, following the HC judgment says groups CAN exclude trans people but donβt HAVE to.
So any organisation excluding trans people is doing it BECAUSE THEY WANT TO.
The leaders of groups doing that (especially when they are harming children) should be held to account on that basis.
They unravel because to take up the anti-trans position is to believe in a conspiracy theory where trans people secretly control all mechanisms of power in the world, have captured every institution and gotten to every friend and family member they ever had who doesn't mirror their bigotry.
βThe right donβt purity test!β
Four new right-wing parties have sprung up in the UK this year alone because they canβt quite agree on exactly how racist they should be.
"Electability" has always been code for either
1. being an educated straight white protestant Xian man who can hang w white men who didn't finish college &/or get money from white men with lots of it
or
2. Being as close to that as possible, preferably closer than your (presumed) primary opponent.
Death Note The Musical seems like it might be alright but based on the soundtrack, the first scene is Light monologuing in class about how the world would be better if we just killed all the criminals.
And that realistically would've got him put on a list and then L woulda caught him immediately.
The fundamental issue with settler colonialism isn't the *people move somewhere* part it's the *setting up discrimitory systems of bigotry and control and exclusion" part.
Gonna go watch that really long Scorsese movie. You know the one, uhh, it's got Leonardo DiCaprio in it...
This has been bugging me.
Are you being sincere or sarcastic here?
As in, are you advocating for "the people's state" or are you accusing anarchists of advocating for it?
You have to understand that the MOST infuriating thing about liberals is that they'll insist that they've got to tack right on things like immigration because of polling data, but then will blankly refuse to tack left again if polling data changes
Ahhh, a casual transphobe rather than a ranked competitive one
I wish people would come to understand transphobia as systemic, structural, and pervasive so we could stop treating transphobia as explicitly limited to people saying "I hate trans people" and accept the way our society conditions us all to dismiss, diminish, and dehumanize trans people.
I read through hundreds of emails and scoured through years of correspondence and background information to write this 4600 word report.
It confirms what we all have been saying about the anti-trans movement from the start. Read it from the top down, I can't even begin to summarize it all properly.
"C'mon, guys. *This* time our faith in the state to establish socialism won't be rewarded with wrack and ruin!"
It's nice to relive the glory days of Twitter :3
