My copy of GPU Zen 4 was in the mail today. The physical book turned out really great!

Things have developed in a truly interesting way since then.
Little fun fact: it was only 3 years later when a kid in rural Germany assembled a 386 PC (33 MHz / 8 MB RAM) in his room with cheap spare parts, and connected it via Null-Modem to his main 486 PC in order to play #DOOM together with his friends in multiplayer.

There was an NVIDIA talk about neural texture compression, which was quite his actually. But was in general mostly bullshit free.
For graphics in particular, we luckily have GPC in the Netherlands now (re @anteru.bsky.social, @jasper-bekkers.bsky.social )
Very well organized with great content, but naturally limited to the hardcore graphics/rendering niche.
As someone living and working in Frankfurt, I'd love to see GDC here.
Infrastructure is definitely there with several huge international trade fairs, strong game dev scene, etc.
However, I can see that transplanting a huge event to another continent seems like a major risk to just destroy it.

Finally getting some non-garbage from the bootloader in PuTTY was pretty satisfying. Time well spent.
Had to guess the port mapping on that undocumented UART port. The adapter didn't seem to like 6V on RX/TX. But ChatGPT was dead sure about it and wanted to take "full responsibility" for the fried adapter afterwards. 🤡
So yeah, successfully flashed my old tp link router with OpenWrt via serial port, so I can use it as a repeater (which wasn't possible with the stock firmware).
Fried one USB-TTL adapter in the process (was cheap!) due to my semi-professional wiring.
