Picard: It's a computer simulation of thoroughbred horse racing called Umamusume Pretty Derby. The program was quite popular in the 21st century.
Riker: Mm. 'Pretty' is accurate. That Goldship is quite something.
Picard: I hadn't noticed. I enjoy the simulation's tactical qualities.
Riker: Yes, sir.

Mind you these workers are specifically Kenyan workers who are made to view and annotate the absolute worst things created by man and machine for extremely low pay and absolutely no support or care from Meta for the trauma they endure every day at work

screenshot of my lastfm listening stats for the last 30 days, the top 2 albums are the demo versions of From under the cork tree by Fall Out Boy (released on limited free secret burned cds this week), and The Paper Kingdom by My chemical romance (leaked online earlier this year). both have 17 tracks listed
already a huge year for annoying people who love demos (me)
the havoc this is gonna wreak on my lastfm stats cannot be understated

screenshot of the end credits showing the Frasier cast singing Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs live on stage
text overlay reads:
"The Real Frasier Day Rally
Seattle - September 11, 1997"
100th episode of Frasier: they struggle to celebrate an honorary Frasier Crane Day- filmed on location in Seattle instead of on set giving uncanny live-action-Frasier (an already live action show) vibe
the credits show a live performance of the theme song where you see the date of Frasier Crane Day

Framed by pink and orange flowers, Gatsby is kneeling on the ground staring in shock at Daisy across from him, whoβs also staring in shock while sitting on a green couch. Presents and flowers everywhere. Back lit by a stained glass window

idk i think i gotta watch more movies from the hollywood blacklist era and before to compare the presentation of the concept, especially because i'm grouping together general crowd scenes with specifically protest scenes, but i think there's something here.

and now when the political climate looms so large there's a focusing in back to individuals, but still the larger protest crowds are almost elementalised, because it evokes the image of waring factions rather than a citizenship being oppressed.

then if you look at the difference between the dark knight and the dark knight rises and the shift is already starting to happen, and i really do think it's in response to protest movements being more profitable when framed as a scary force of nature instead of your actual community of individuals.

just keeping to hollywood: you look at how crowds are handled in genre films of the 90s and 2000s, you see how dir.s like raimi individualise the population, they cast semi diversely and work with broad strokes but just enough personal details to be relatable.

actually one of the strangest things about how crowd action is depicted in film is ever since, as far as i can tell, the occupy movement back in the early 2010s-there's been some attempts to show protests & social upheaval but it always ends up using the imagery of anonymous mobs.
