And in case that goes down, here's an alternative archive: archive.ph/agKbU
This is a follow-up confirmation that that this has been captured on the wayback machine for posterity because I like being an annoying little shit to bad faith shit-stirrers :3c

It's literally the "we are still doing it but now we would like you to be less mad about it." post. After 3 backdowns that didn't even back down they pull out another BIG puppy eyed SUPER sorry backdown that ALSO doesn't back down.
No. You've fuckied your last wucky, UwU.

The answer to this should be 'don't care' and to keep hammering them until they cease this shit entirely.
Showoff
If you're gonna read any quote from an article on the game, let it be this one, because I think it sums up a lot of the feelings of fans pretty succintly
This is not a walkback at all. This is just a "don't worry it's fine! no nothing's changing"
I guess i wasn't one of these majority of adults, cos despite being old enough to remember VHSs and floppies, and having made my account in 2016 & 5 years of Nitro, my account is still treated as a child.
a screenshot from the press release from discord which reads as follows: Privacy-Forward Age Assurance Age assurance is the foundation of this new experience and is designed to respect Discord usersβ privacy and choice. Discord users can choose to use facial age estimation or submit a form of identification to its vendor partners, with more options coming in the future. Additionally, Discord will implement its age inference model, a new system that runs in the background to help determine whether an account belongs to an adult, without always requiring users to verify their age. Some users may be asked to use multiple methods if more information is needed to assign an age group.
this is a nothing statement and not a walk back, they're just repeating what was already in the initial press release and they said the same thing in the interviews they gave to certain outlets
"Don't worry, we've already collected enough data on you to verify your age :)" is not the comforting statement they want it to be.
The tone of this response from them is pathetic.
Not good enough.
Tl;dr: The vast majority of adults will never have to interact with our age assurance systems and their experience won't change, because we know Discord and how people use it, so we're designing to respect privacy and deliver a safer experience while minimizing friction for adults. Hey folks β Iβve been on Discord since very early 2016 and actually joined the company in 2017. Safety is one of my areas, so todayβs announcement on our blog is something Iβve been pretty involved with. Iβve always cared about Discord's approach to privacy (E2EE for A/V was another of my projects here), so I figured Iβd add some more context to today's news. I can say confidently that the vast majority of people will never see age verification. I say this because we launched age assurance in the UK and Australia in 2025, and we have some pretty good data on this now. The idea here is that we can pre-identify most adults based on what we already know (not including your messages!), and that looks to get us pretty far here. No face scans, no IDs, for the vast majority of adults.
And if you are one of the smaller subset of folks that we can't definitively pre-identify, then still, you only have to do it if you're accessing age-restricted servers or channels, or changing certain settings. That's really not most users. (Altho... might be more Redditors, tbh.) Last, I know that there is concern about privacy and data leaks. That's a real concern. The selfie system is built purely client-side, it never leaves your device, and we did that intentionally. That'll work for a bunch of users who aren't pre-identified as adults. But if you do end up in the ID bucket, then yeah, you're right that has some risk. We're doing what we can to minimize this by working with our range of partners (who are different partners than the data leak you read about), and if it's any help, we learned a lot internally from the last issue. But I get if that doesn't necessarily inspire more confidence. Anyway, weβll be sharing more next month as we get closer to the global roll out about the system, including the technology behind it in March. I honestly wouldn't be happy if we didn't build something good and I am excited about what weβre launching, but please let us know what you think when we share more details. And I really appreciate everybody's feedback here today. Weβre definitely reading it!
Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)
If you want to send a message to Discord about their age verification plans, I suggest canceling your Nitro.
If Discord ever dones something that makes you mad, cancel your Nitro and then only consider re-upping once they've walked it back. I'm sure that's a metric they're looking at.
It could be really bad for Discord if Californians contact the office of the Attorney General to report the potential violations of CCPA and CALOPPA citing the recent breach from a few months back where 1.5tb of user data and millions of IDs were leaked, but who can say for sure?
Not even a year ago, by the way.

You have decided the name of our horror game's next monster
it drives you insane how much erosion of freedom is justified by concern for kids when the people who actually hurt them will never face consequences
The idea that everybody on the planet must forever be beholden to the default of babysitter of other peopleβs children except for their actual fucking parents, and as a result any attempt to opt of non-consensual babysitting must include getting my identity stolen, is an idea that must fucking die.
if i know discord for anything is that they can and will pussy out if people bully them enough for something. get fucking loud about this
Not trying to be TOO WOKE here but, I'm just saying but literally every time discord has made a bad decision and their user base got up and arms about it they immediately reverted it
time to be loud about this terrible decision.

FUCK THAT SHIT
Seeing how many people defend stuff like this when itβs the most overt Trojan horse scheme Iβve ever seen has been incredibly disappointing.
I genuinely donβt think you couldβve convinced me this was the future in 2010.
Oh my god, so many people are canceling Nitro that it's having issues processing it, cook 'em hard bois.

@jk_rowling Β· Feb 2 This is beyond silly. Neither I, nor anybody on my team, ever met, communicated with or invited Jeffrey Epstein to anything. https://x.com/girlslasttourr/girlslasttourrr/status/2018093016548778327
Justice.gov Epstein Files official Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play invite to Jeffrey Epstein
Peggy Siegal Company: "Hi just liet us know where you like to send the tickets. Rhys Kimmitt "the tickets are on their way to Peggy's office. Please deal with Lila to arrange pickup" CC Jeffrey Epstein "Rhys please deal with Jeffrey Epstein's assistant [redacted] She will send a messenger to pick up his two dinner tickets. Thanks so much! xoxo Peggy"
To Jeffrey Epstein Ryhs Kimmitt Marisa Frank and Lila Walker from Peggy "To whom this may concern Rhys...what was not clear?" "I was very explicit with my staff and you about TWO tickets for the DINNER for Jeffrey Epstein. What genius filled the ticket order? Why wasn't his name on the DINNER list at the door? What genius thought my friend would not have a plus one when we ordered TWO tickets. What robot at the door would not let him in? This has ruined what was a perfect everning for all of us. I am incredibly emarabassed by the rigid behavior of some child minded door guard. Jeffrey is a captain of international finance and a close personal friend of mine. I know this was not done on purpose but it still is terribly upsetting. Please find out who did this and send an apology note. Thank you so much. Peggy. Jeffrey...of all nights, I left my two phones home, I was actually looking for you all night, I was with Soon-Yi and she thought you were having dinner with her husband. I am so very sorry. What a screw up.
