Insane that "forty cakes" became a meme and this languished in obscurity
I'd not really considered SW and the blockbuster flood it unleashed as part of the death knell for heady earnest 70s sci-fi before, which is obvious once you do...
That's an interesting take. I really liked the original trilogy of Star Wars for a long time (I've cooled as the amount of star wars in the world reaches saturation) but I also really love that heavy (often to the point of awkwardly earnest) 70s heart on sleeve cinema.
Got served a random news article today that by least-favourite local scam artist has had his "business" put into receivership. Doesn't seem like anyone caught onto his whole deal being scams, sadly, just that he wasn't actually very good at robbing Peter to pay Paul (and Paul called in the debt).
Facebook and Insta are both filling up with long posts like that about any topic you care to mention. Because of my interests I mostly see it about '90s bands...
Truly the dream of the tech elite - nothing but AI agents talking to one another all the way down!
"Drink less than all of the booze" would probably help
FD Signifier on Youtube made the pint that a female black candidate (all other things aside) is a massive sell to the American electorate, so they'd really have needed to pull out all the stops and get everyone more than onside to have had a chance.
Porn War as the MO of the Epsteinist class, what fun.
This week @objectivereality.bsky.social has more alt-country from John Moreland, UK indie from Heavenly, tunes in Te Reo by Brutha Rodz and Rei, and a new track from Fables!

The show image from "Sick and Tired Aotearoa".
An except from the show in text form. The reads "Are you prepared to break up? No? Are you prepared to financially support her? You break up and you get support or you support her and she's your dependent - make a choice." This is from an interview with author Laura Wolf.

This International Womenβs Day, weβre amplifying voices and stories that are important. Here's a powerful excerpt from Sick and Tired Aotearoa, looking at the way that chronic illness affects women in relationships. Listen: mpr.nz/show/sickand..., more at linktr.ee/camanz
We use it for ppl who don't give us decent episode descriptions. The good enough transcript can be summarized into a good enough description that you can tweak to actually good pretty quick.
I can't imagine him being a careful or disciplined drug dealer. Real "good at precisely one thing" guy.
He might be out of weed, having smoked it all
I feel like with Garcia it's 50/50 on a loosie (possible spliff) or used Heinlein novel.
I think I had that game, or possibly the sequel on C643 cassette. Completely impossible.
Lefty sticker game is on point, this is an impressively quick turnaround I reckon.
...along with (probably Robin Williamson's) hammer-ons and pull-offs. The result is that the notes sort of "squiggle" in place and then dart off to one side of other. A visual metaphor would be watching fish in a pond, Must have been very labour intensive during the mixing in '68 or '69 or whenever.
Alas I can't now remember which tune (might be "Waltz of the New Moon" on "Hangman's Beautiful Daughter"?) but I listened to an Incredible String Band song on headphones for the first time and there are "sitar" (probably actually a modified guitar) notes which are being panned...
The second part of any "we don't have enough nice things for the super rich" story is always "so what?" What is the bad outcome that happens if we don't have enough Bond-villains castles for the Epstein class to want to come here?
...and b) industry suits making the calculation that rap would be cheaper and easier to exploit for profit than rock was. In both cases the villain is capitalism.
It's a perfect case study in why you never have to hand it to conspiracy theorists, right? I think he's right that there was a deliberate push to deprioritise rock in favour of rap (as well as just nobody gets to be on top forever) but that's a) markets chasing trends...
Genuinely confused about in what way this is a problem. Can visiting rich perverts not just stay in *very nice* houses or expensive hotels? Is that not the point of being a very rich pervert?
And for a really dumb example which skirts the edge of horror - "Nothing But Trouble" - Chevy Chase is the true villain in all possible senses of the word both textually and meta.
OH also "Infinity Pool" by David Cronenberg's wee boy Brandon. Haven't seen many people talk about that one but the protagonist absolutely dives into the terrible situation head first.
Ben Wheatley's "Kill List", I feel like?
Oh you're in for a treat, Triangle is rad.
Joke's on you I'm only good to be sacrificed for 1 colourless
So do I! (Gotta seed your bookshelf with the occasional psychic bomb for the kids)
