I hope for big chances with more awareness π
Thank you Hannah - I will do! I'm not a clinical autism researcher, my work supports lived experience/PPIE with experts; the overlap I see in friends and colleagues is the universal gaslighting of women for years + years. Then you have to fight the 'everyone has ADHD nowadays' types on top!
Also, I know I shouldn't be worrying about this as V close to my research interests & I'm on sick leave, but gah, it's all so frustrating π©
When will endometriosis be properly looked into for my ND sisters as well ?? So many differences in our perception of pain and sensory processing.
Resting up after excision of deep pelvic #endometriosis & been sent the new film... Here's a Q ladies, are you also late or self diagnosed #ADHD / #autistic? I've got #PMDD as well, like endo linked to ovulation. We know numerous soft tissue related co-occuring conditions w neurodivergence
Can't even engage in the #SEND reform discussions this week, as I'm having surgery soon & my 5 year old autistic kid is in bits... The reality for many is you get so worn down by every day there's no fight left π
I just cannot keep on top of my kids SEND paperwork and possibly put myself through referral π¬ why can't we just get a nice honorary badge when the kids get diagnosed?! Like we KNOW where this is from...
Did you know that most self-identifying autistic adults actually want a diagnosis? Diagnosis barriers(financial, waitlists, outdated criteria, diagnosis deserts) are the real issue.
Yet another reason why scoffing at self-diagnosed autistic is an a**hole move.

It was absolutely brilliant, what a fun way to raise some, erm, pennies...
On a completely different tangent, I keep wondering if evolutionary psychologists are looking at why girls mask in large social groups - my gut says survival instinct. Then we unmask when safe again π€·
This π―. Even teachers I know fully supported of girls who mask in school and meltdown at home have to fill out forms about how they present in the classroom and they don't meet the threshold of exhibiting behaviours 'in multiple locations'
We have to be active in dismantling gendered assumptions about autism in children. I've seen how hard girl-parent friends have found getting diagnosis, support, ehcps compared to my boys who present 'typically'. Their girls are no less #autistic @theguardian.com www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
Poster outlining the following information: Researchers at The University of Manchester and NHS are looking for clinicians who work with autistic people without learning disabilities to support their sensory motor needs (even if this is a small part of their role). The study aims to show the need for routine sensory motor assessments and treatment for autistic people without learning disabilities and what kinds of assessments and support would be of help. You would be asked to complete a survey asking about your experience of using sensory motor assessments and support options with autistic adults without learning disabilities. If you need more information, please contact: sensorymotorsupport@gmmh.nhs.uk
New call for volunteers: we're looking for #clinicians who work with #autistic people without learning disabilities, supporting their #sensory motor needs. Please see attached advert & survey link here:

This thread hasn't even covered the raw ingredients (except coconuts), there's one thing for certain, the next time you set students on a source analysis task, hide the Celebrations...
Imperial history wise, Greek and Roman culture were heralded repeatedly at the British Empire's height - neo-classical in every sense (stretching this thread a bit now!)
Etymology wise, we're borrowing from another Greek name and myth of the hero Pheidippides
Next mini Snickers, famously branded 'marathon' in the 1970s/80s. Apparently linked to the duration of time it takes to consume a whole 8 inches... π³
(Somewhere, I have my dad's ration book)
Postwar optimism is an odd one, certainly mass media would like us to believe this how people felt around the time of the Festival of Britain. In actuality, Brits are still eating rations in 1951 - including sugar and sweets
From the 1930s chocolate invention flurry at Mars, apparently Brits get the Bounty in 1951, according to Emma Hughes in the Guardian 'Bounty spoke to the countryβs new mood of postwar optimism and peopleβs longing for sunny foreign travel'
And the bounty name? Bounty inferring reward for a high risk, a risk like travelling the seas for Queen and Country to exploit untapped natural resources for the Empire?
Now the Mini Bounty. Where to start... the coconut centre perhaps. Not the characters nor proper depth here to go into the many cases of environmental colonialism so here's suggested reading: www.hup.harvard.edu/books/978067...
According to guest piece in the financial times the Malteser is a 'British cultural touchstone'. If soft power came with a honeycomb centre...
Next the mini Maltester... another invention of Forrest Mars Sr. at the Mars factory in Slough in 1936. Originally marketed as energy balls - then some sort of inconvenience halted production in 1939
Nomenclature note, the name Milky Way comes from Western classical culture
Coined in 1923, the Milky Way choccy treat was the same year Hubble determined that the Way wasn't the only galaxy...
The mini Milky Way has much stronger US roots, and there's obvious connections to the brand through the naming of Mars, Galaxy and Milky Way
Wishful thinking from post-Empire Blighty?
