give your characters exes. give them a variety of exes. give them relationships that shaped who they are but did not last. give them people they tried very hard to love but it didn't work out. give them situationships that taught them things. give them something deep that was real but could not endure. things that hurt. things that ended amicably. people with whom hot passion cooled to warm affection and became undying friendship. no more first and only. give me the context of what made them know the next or one after was final and right.

allen’s expression darkens. in his internal narration, he looks more crazed and holding his face like sasuke uchiha. allens thoughts: dammit. dammit. i designed my costume to contrast cesare perfectly. i’m supposed to be his visual foil! the amoral grey to his uncaring black! we can’t both have white hair, the visual balance of zomburger would be destroyed! but i can’t make him go back to black, it’s be like symbolically reversing his development… tch. twelve months of bleaching be damned. i’ll have to redesign my look from the ground up.
allen: I need to dye my hair black again immediately. the rest of the zomburger crew look at him in various levels of offense. cesare: wow, don’t go sparing my feelings or anything. frances: dude!!! read the room!!!
