Digital illustration in ink and color style. A hippopotamus standing on a low hillock. He has the wings and engines of a biplane strapped to his flanks. The propellers are spinning and he's wearing goggles. Sitting on top of the upper wing in front of a control stick is a capybara wearing a white silk scarf that's flapping in th breeze, a leather old-timey aviator helmet and goggles. Just two aquatic mammals who are friends taking to the air. Arcing agains the blue sky and clouds of the background is lettering reading 'Maybe it will happen today'.
That & turning away a black man during invitation at the baptist church was what got me to leave that church. Turned to presbyterian church during college. Full atheist a couple years after getting married.
1993 or 94. Sitting in Sunday School with my high school aged peers who said that everyone with AIDS needed to be sent to an island to die and that would get rid of all the homosexuals, too. That was truly the beginning of the end. Only took me 6 years more to abandon religion completely.
Life is feeling extra Sisyphyean lately.
I really need that extra hour to lie in bed and not be able to sleep.
‘A recent study found research papers with women as first authors had fewer retractions than those with men as first authors. Curt Rice argues these findings indicate more troubling patterns of power and attention in academic publishing.’

Entergy Arkansas customers will see $5.77 monthly power bill bump, thanks to new state law that makes it easier for utilities to pass along construction costs to ratepayers. Among projects financed by increase is power plant for massive Google data center in W. Memphis.

An homage to a panel from the Achewood web comic. Phillipe, a young and eager otter, who is wearing a shirt and tie and a helmet for some reason, is happily singing a song to himself as follows: Born... in the USA! I went to school and I got an... A! I ate a hamburger and said hooray! Maybe it will happen today! The final line is obviously my addition. The art was redrawn by me and is not just a copy of the original panel. Done in black lines and halftone shading on a toned paper background. You do not need to trouble Chris Onstad about this.
The asymmetry of the value placed on human life is so striking. Israel has a goal to recover 40-year-old remains; to do so, it invades a sovereign country, and the lives of 26 Lebanese are an afterthought. Their names not even worth printing in the New York Times.
License plate readers. Cellphone location data. Social media monitoring. Now, real-time facial recognition on the street.
DHS is building a surveillance apparatus—and you're probably already in it.

Sixty-one years ago today, on Bloody Sunday, Alabama law enforcement attacked peaceful civil and voting rights marchers at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. They broke John Lewis’s skull. 🗃️ #EduSky nmaahc.si.edu/explore/stor...
“No,” said Frog.
We're at a point where there are no cheap options to retreat to and no price points that guarantee quality. Every run-down studio is $1400, every fast food meal is $17, every luxury condo has peel-n-stick tiles, every $300 pair of boots falls apart. Endless expensive mediocrity.
Whoa. I remember this. My husband was an agent in the Carson office around that time. One of our friends was the agent assigned to the case. Sad it’s still unsolved all these years later.
I keep seeing people say that this won't affect them because they don't drive and an oil shock is way, way more than just the cost of putting gas in your car.
do you buy food?
Modern problems require modern solutions.
So let’s invite no student athletes, ex-coaches that hate the current state of sports, and Clay Travis for some reason.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has told a judge that it is not able to comply with his order to begin refunding tariffs.
The First Amendment wasn’t written so “faith leaders” could turn the Oval Office into a prayer circle or promise “revival” through government power.
Religious liberty means keeping church and state separate, not using the presidency as a pulpit.

Arkansas also does this.
Damn. Here I had hopes for X Day, turns out I just need Nasex.
Having ADHD and going undiagnosed for so long (until I hit perimenopause) is wild. Finally recognizing why I have certain behaviors like a false sense of urgency for certain tasks. Just sitting here trying to choke down a meal as fast as possible to respond to email? No thanks.
