How privatising ADHD diagnosis robs the NHS of resources | LSE British Politics
ADHD assessments are soaring, many outsourced to the private sector, and the companies to which the NHS outsources these are enjoying huge profit margins. This is unsustainable.
Our Director David Rowland writes for the LSE policy blog on why the NHS market regulations are allowing private equity companies to make huge sums from the NHS by providing cataract surgery and ADHD services, potentially at the expense of patients more in need. blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandp...

Under rules introduced by Lansley reforms and built on by successive Govts, companies don't need contracts with NHS areas. Coupled with optometrist referrals it's an ideal model to "drive patient flow" to their clinics. @chpithinktank.bsky.social found 84k ops done without contracts in 3yrs

The idea that using the private sector adds genuine additional capacity to support the NHS is "utter nonsense" says our Director David Rowland. The private sector is entirely reliant on NHS doctors to do any operations. Without them it would collapse overnight www.theguardian.com/society/2025...
