Canucks decided they were gonna make sure Lankinen was worth the contract with the way theyβve played this period
Canucks decided they were gonna make sure Lankinen was worth the contract with the way theyβve played this period
Youβre probably misinterpreting what side of this argument Iβm on. Iβm very pro-Pettersson and think he should/will be good again. But if heβs in the lineup he needs to provide a certain amount to this team, otherwise just sit and rest if itβs that bad.
Just to add - I have no idea if he is dealing with an injury or the severity of it. But it is the only thing that logically adds up to me. Players donβt just get bad at 26 years old.
Because everyone wants more EP40 takes:
Multiple things can be true.
1. Heβs dealing with an injury that hampered his offseason and continues to through the season.
2. That injury wonβt get better by taking time off.
3. He should be better than heβs been if heβs playing.
From a rooting perspective itβs actually wildly clutch that Quinn Hughes isnβt playing and JT Miller was traded. Just unconditional American hate.
Some intermission reading from me to you!
Allvin joined @danriccio.bsky.social and @satiarshah.bsky.social today, I have some key quotes and analysis in here.
Full interview on the #Canucks Central podcast feed is in there too for your listening pleasure.

A lot of this is projection, but itβs nice to think that the #Canucks defence by the end of next season could be a mix of:
Hughes-Hronek
Metey-Willander
D Petey-Myers
with a decent amount of money left to try to upgrade the forward group.
Most encouraging part of tonightβs game - not going into a shell with the lead. Power play helped but they were pushing before then too.
Also, Demko.
Penalties tonight
Makar: 1
Hughes: 0
I think itβs clear who deserves the Norris
I have no idea how Myers ended up in the box but he does usually find his way there so I guess thatβs fair
Makar just tried to a Quinn-esque walk along the blueline and immediately gave the puck away. Hughes would never.
Drew OβConnor being incredibly fast on the forecheck created that Filip Chytil chance. Very nice to see speed up front for the Canucks
Very meh first period but the Canucks have woken up for the second
Chytil might just be great idk
I think the ideal defence group for now is:
Hughes-Hronek
Metey-Myers
D-Petey-Forbort
Really hard to argue that D-Petey shouldnβt get an extended look with how well heβs played in his first three games.
Also becoming much more difficult to see how Carson Soucy at 3.25 makes sense for this team if he keeps playing how he has so far this season.
Maybe Chytil was also just in need of a fresh start
If each Pettersson scores does that count as a hat trick?
Roster site has him as #29 (Chytil #72, OβConnor #18)
Depends on the guy, some donβt want the hassle of free agency if they get a good enough offer before then. I assume the relationship with Rutherford and Allvin is there and that theyβre confident they can extend him before he hits free agency.
I just donβt get why people think a legit top-4 defenceman costs anything less than a 1st rounder.
I can get on board with the price being too high if Pettersson is just a rental, but I would be very surprised if he is just a rental
Different types of players but I think theyβre going to have similar impacts. Itβs going to be the same βoh this is what a legit top-4 Defenceman looks likeβ feeling
Hronek also had the benefit of playing PP1 in Detroit, which inflated his point totals.
I think he is a Hronek tbh. I do agree they need to extend him for it to be truly worth it, not high on it if they pay that price for a rental.
True
So I see weβre going to have the same discourse we did when the Canucks traded for Hronek.
The Rangers are going to make the playoffs. The pick is going to be in the late teens. Donβt fall in love with what something could be.
Marcus Pettersson is a more than capable 2nd pairing defenceman. Plays 22 minutes a night, decent amount on the PK
Yes and no. His rights were part of the Mikheyev trade heading to Chicago, could really go in either category.
Updated look at assets the #CanucksΒ have moved ONLY VIA TRADE since Allvin and co. took over
I donβt doubt the Canucks will flip one of their 1sts, but I do wonder which one. More fun outcome would be trading their own and holding on to the Rangers pick.
Elias Pettersson to JT Miller
