One hour for us
You too!
You donβt build relationships without listening and give and take β thank you, youβve made me think more about being brave and silencing the pressure for the time that it needs for those relationships to form. (Feels strange to call listening and pausing brave, but it felt right)
Not sure how well Iβve expressed that - my mind is full of back to school π
2/2 - Do you think sometimes we can feel pressure (from ourselves and elsewhere) to show what we know and the expertise we have and sometimes can jump in too quickly (I think I have in the past), but that actually by taking some time and space to let ourselves really see is the key to success?
I really enjoyed this. The more I think about starting a new role myself, the more I realise that we need to pause and see what is already happening. It also means that everyone feels seen and heard and that weβre actually building on what schools need, rather than our own interpretations.
Ooo, I havenβt - will have a look, thank you!
All the solidarity over here too! (The roasting tin cookbooks save us in term timeβ¦ means you would to have to learn any quick dinner recipes - canβt offer anything for the others though!) π
Suggestions please π My five year old has become recently really interested in mythical creatures - particularly the kraken! Any suggestions for great fiction/non fiction books we can look at to follow his interest? Thank you! #edusky
Thing to remember is we will have done - the best just looks different - but different doesnβt mean wrong. Youβve made the right decision π©·
My two boys went in at ten months and have done great - I agree with Hannah! Honestly, biggest thing Iβve learnt while being a parent is whatever you decide someone will disagree with you - and really strongly.. I think itβs because we all care and want to know weβve done the best for our kids. The
Any teachers who do supplementary work to teaching - marking/assessing etc - are you set up as a sole trader? Trying to work out contracts! Any help much appreciated #edusky
Great blog. I agree completely, and my recent experience working within my last school also supports this - we really focused on empowering our subject leaders to drive their subject in the ways they needed too, and to lead - we tried to βbufferβ other distractions where we could.
Member here, good to see you!
While weβre revisiting blogs, this was one that had good traction: βWhy tough conversations often fail - 8 reasons whyβ, including deflecting, denying, defending, disengaging, diminishing, pussyfooting and more! www.informededucation.com/necessary-to...
I love that poem. Iβll have to look in my copy of KJV and read that passage now. Narnia is so magical - I delve into a fairy tale sometimes when I need a bit of a brain break. The βuses of enchantmentβ blew my mind - about children using fairy tales to process their feelings - I do it too!
I havenβt read this, will have to check it out now!
Completely agree. I always tell my literature students that life is made up of stories - down to the way we think about situations and things that have happened to us - and thatβs why we should always read and explore as it gives us new perspectives on life π₯° Itβs why literature is magic!
And I bet you find something slightly different in them each time π©·
#edusky Iβm interested in how we use literature to help us through tough times - can you share a book, poem or play that has helped you through a tough time in your life?
Had such a special day yesterday -
celebrating the wedding of an English teacher friend who I also taught many moons ago π©·
Hi! Looking forward to connecting with others! π
Can we have a #TeamEnglish roll call on here? How many of us have made the move?
In the squeeze for time. It needs to be a priority β though there are lots of balls to juggle! Itβs key in making sure people feel valued - having that set time to discuss and reflect with someone else.
Completely agree about both context and access to strong LM. And there are always some LM who are brilliant. It would be interesting to look at how their expertise can feed into others, especially with how much impact a good (or bad) LM can have. Yet it can be one of those aspects that can be lost
Early Sunday morning musings more than anything! π
HR training is a good shout. I love the Christine counsell blog series too. I think Iβm also considering if there is a place for coaching around these kinds of meetings? Or is it that the LM needs to be seen as expert (not in subject but in management) And Iβm then thinking where that training isβ¦
