I'm horrified by the shooting of Charlie Kirk at a college event in Utah.

Political violence has no place in our country.

I joke now, but I am bracing for the coming retribution wave of hate crimes against people (including myself) who were neither there nor relevant to the shooting.

You can only plan everything up until the moment the trigger is pulled. You cannot plan for anything that happens after.

Oh god yeah. I saw the faraway video first, and when I saw him go down like a sack of potatoes, I knew it was over for him. Each new closer angle was just more of a confirmation.

But oh god the SOUND on that closest angle.

I was at work down the street from the campus where it happened. My coworkers all got an active shooter alert, then it was revised to a single shot. And oh my god they had the video within MINUTES.

We all knew he was dead hours before the media reported it.

Thoughts and prayers

for the people who saw the video, not for Charlie Kirk.

I saw THREE. Each was a closer angle than the last, each more fucked than the last. There was no way he was surviving that shit.

I work somewhat down the street from the campus where Charlie Kirk was shot. Everyone I work with had videos within MINUTES of it happening. I could have told you he was dead before it was even reported.

Im not advocating for violence because lots of people will get hurt but as someone who has researched and written about authoritarianism regret to inform you that the way this is described is not "the only known solution". It might be the more desirable but putting the claim this way is ahistorical.

It also very famously does sweet fuck-all when they're doing it on a single saturday like it's some fucking mass neighborhood party.

The ADA wasn't won by disabled people chilling out on the weekends. It was won by 37 days of sitting on the stairs.

So to all of you praying and hoping that the Democratic senators and representatives do something for you, even in two years, or even four years, know this:
