We have suffered our worst national humiliation since the Suez debacle, if not the fall of Singapore. This time, though, we lack the excuse of having been pressured by alies or attacked by foes. The decision to cower and plead neutrality even as Iranian proxies were lobbing ordnance at us was entirely our own. Sir Keir Starmer's pusillanimity has left us looking weak, needy and duplicitous. And all for what? Anxiety about anti-lsrael voters in constituencies like Gorton and Denton? Fear of crossing our human-rights obsessed Attorney General, Lord Hermer? Paywall down.

In a desperate attempt to make Trump and Netanyahu's war all about the UK government, you simultaneously have the Your Party tendency sowing a narrative that we're already fighting on America's side... and the Ladybird Libertarians calling it the greatest humiliation since the Fall of Singapore.

It's extremely clear that the US doesn't really have an objective here except to inflict maximum pain, and attacking water supply is going to end catastrophically for the entire region. It's not just a war crime, it's approaching a crime against humanity.

I hope so, but worry that most '24 Tory voters will vote Reform next time. Traditional one nation Tories had already mostly gone to the LDs. And as Labour benefited from split Tory/Reform votes in '24, Reform - having already swept up Tory votes - might from split progressive votes in the next GE.

I don't think Labour will necessarily hold most of London in their present state!

Most people in England & Wales are not Christian, and it’s axiomatic to a free society that religious beliefs - or the lack of them - are irrelevant to civic participation. Britain is a pluralist, not a Christian, society; and this is one more reason to fight Reform UK.

It is slightly irritating that the Guardian uncritically reports his claim that taxpayers are spending "an ever increasing proportion of our national income on out-of-work benefits” without pointing out that it is, in fact, false.

This is a very simple coordination problem.
