Are there other models we should be exploring that are more agile? Smaller scale but easier to build and get up and running? Where does something like Isambard-AI feature?

You won't be surprised to hear that I think we in the UK need more #compute capacity (and thanks to colleagues in DSIT we are well on the way to delivering on that need). What I'm still trying to figure out is whether bigger is always better?
Iβm Tim and itβs been zero days since Iβve bought compost #gardening
If youβre interested in #R&D + #science spending by #government then read this - allocations for @ukri.org announced last week for 25/26 including confirmation that (my very own) Dept is picking up responsibility for some programmes in #advancedmanufacturing

Weβre at the βcreative destructionβ stage of the #allotment remodel. At least one of the beds is built - only four more (bigger) ones to go!
Bright and sunny start in #Cheltenham this morning - and day one of the #allotment refurb under way!
Second gig of the day on a busy #brassband day for #Cheltenham Silver. This time celebrating (belatedly) the local legend that is #Holst at the iconic Pittville Pump Rooms
First gig of the year and the sun is out! Our annual support of the opening weekend of the rather lovely #SandordParkLido #brassband
I hope you don't have to be religious (I'm not particularly) for this to bring a smile to your face this morning.
We visited #notredame in 2018 + alongside Gloucester, York + Liverpool, la Sagrada FamΓlia or the many in Rome there is something awe inspiring about these structures.

@pau1mi11er.bsky.social how big do you think the intersection is on here of brass players and scienctists and technologists πΊπ§ͺ
If you tweet on twitter, aka what a bird does, then surely you precipitate (what a cloud in the sky does), or maybe refract (the action of a blue sky). Iβll get my coat πͺ
So if any of that is interesting to you - get in touch
And of course outside of work - allotments and brass bands!
- as you'd expect a whole load of tech related things (AI, datacentres, robotics)
- but increasingly things like advanced materials
- also really interested in new models for datacentres
- anything and all related to adoption of tech in the wider economy
- science and engineering skills in the CS
Overall goal is how do we make sure science, tech, R&D and innovation are supporting economic growth - both directly (as drivers of growth themselves) but also how they support the rest of the economy.
What does that mean is in my inbox the minute?
Afternoon - trying this out on the advice of @reid24hrs.bsky.social
For anyone interested, a bit of a thread about me and what I'm currently interested in.
Celebrated four years in the Civil Service this week (it feels a lot longer). Currently privileged to be serving as dCSA in the Department.
Even nicer in Cheltenham....
