In local transport, what kills or injures whom? Here's data for Bath and North Somerset from 2019-2023. Unfortunate to see car-pedestrian as the biggest circle. Cycles get a clean sweep. Data from national stats, gratefully compiled by @robintucker1.bsky.social @cyclinguk.bsky.social Oxfordshire

When asked why, she talks about her neighbours who are Romainian, Jamaican. She doesn’t want to make them feel like this isn’t their home, that they’re not welcome. Nicola, you’re awesome and make me proud to be British.

At Dad’s so listening to the Jeremy Vine phone in on Radio 2. They’re debating flags. Nicola from Nottingham has just been on; she has house sized union and St George flags which they fly for international sports matches, VE Day etc. She’s not going to fly it any more…

I always read your articles Tristan, I know it winds you right up when people don’t πŸ˜† I hadn’t seen the update since this morning though, I’m glad that’s been clarified now. Given that the review’s authors had an explanation for the error in April, it does seem…

I’m struggling to understand why the council are not giving a direct answer, given that it’s already been stated in full council this was a mistake in capitalisation in an answer to a question. Unless there is more to share this feels like a molehill sized mountain, but the headline is out there now

Our feeder ride down through the #EastBristolLiveableNeighbourhood was equally lovely. This 100% wouldn’t have been the safe and lovely ride it was without the traffic filters. Streets for kids! πŸ–€EBLN

Not ideal, but really looking forward to the two improved pedestrian crossings which will be installed - currently crossing to/ from Strawberry Lane is 😱

Just ignore all the myths about low traffic neighbourhoods: they’re popular, effective and here to stay | Izzy Romilly After the high court ruled one high-profile scheme unlawful, it is important to make the case for LTNs. Luckily, there is a strong one to make, says Izzy Romilly of climate charity Possible

Very good, evidence-based comment piece about low-traffic neighbourhoods - and how opponents often use them as a proxy for problems which are caused instead by too many cars.

Pleased to see at least one of the filters in the #EastBristolLivableNeighbourhood repositioned so it’s no longer blocking dropped curbs. Yes, it should never have been installed incorrectly in the first place, but the benefit of the trial is the flexibility to correct mistakes

Are we still debating LTNs? If so, this very thorough meta-study about LTNs in London by @centreforlondon.bsky.social says they are generally more popular than believed, and that there is strong evidence they work well. So there we are.

My cycle to work today, through low traffic EBLN and the Dings, and then traffic free Castle Park, was idyllic. It might not be Amsterdam, but it’s starting to feel a lot like it 🚲🌳🌷

The usual complaint about low traffic neighbourhoods is that they're designed to make posh areas posher by pushing traffic into working class streets. But in Barton Hill, Bristol, where I live, it's that they're picking on a poorer community, creating segregation. It's almost as if they can't win!

Lots of great examples of delivered schemes in the UK.
He makes clear that network level planning means LTNs or whatever you want to call them are ESSENTIAL. You can't deliver everything via bike lanes.

Bristol Cycling Campaign did a poll recently that asked what colour bike infrastructure should be to clearly delineate it from road space or general pavement.

The main suggestions are:

GREEN
RED
YELLOW (buff)
BLUE

Which is your personal preference and why?

09.01.2025 10:45 πŸ‘ 11 πŸ” 3 πŸ’¬ 11 πŸ“Œ 0

Red, because it’s already in use in Bristol and is internationally understood to mean β€˜bike lane’ thanks to the Dutch. More important than any particular colour though is agreeing one nationally so it makes sense wherever you are. I’d like ATE to be deciding this rather than Bristol
