While the media is focused on what an atrocious performer Luxon is, those lefty ratbags at interest.co.nz are torpedoing the government's whole economic strategy.

Given NZ's membership of Five Eyes, shouldn't it be the other way around?

I'd call it "failing upwards" except they've become the leaders of the Liberal party.

We should be getting ready to press go on our mechanism to insulate the economy from an oil price shock. It's not like we don't know that all our episodes of inflation have been powered by oil and warmongering. But, why have a plan when we can increase debt costs and throw more people on the dole?

Stanislav Petrov, 'The Man Who Saved The World,' Dies At 77 Petrov was on overnight duty in 1983 when computers indicated the U.S. had launched a nuclear strike against his country. He had only a few nerve-jangling minutes to act.

I drank a toast to Stanislav Petrov.

Turnout at UK General Elections - CLOSER Sources: Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher, British Electoral Facts 1832-2006; House of Commons Research Papers 01/37, 01/54, 05/33 & 10/36

Acknowledged, but that seems to have been a low turnout election in general. But whether new or normal it doesn't speak of a healthy democracy.

Govt threatens to imprison homeless for 90 days at a cost of $49,680 per person Govt to empower Police to 'move on' homeless with threat of three months prison, costing taxpayer $552 per person per night; Govt adds 2,000 prison beds since election & delivers 420 new homes

1. Adopt policies that increase the number of homeless people; 2. Blame the homeless for any resulting problems; 3. Adopt expensive measures to minimise the inconvenience on those of us lucky enough to not be homeless.

NZ has normalised inequality. As the cost of living rises, Govt has to expand into every corner of life so people don't starve and end up homeless.
We need to reduce inequality and rampant rentierism so that people and communities have the resources they need to look after themselves.

Here is another way of approaching it - for the 0.1% (318) most rainy known hours at Auckland Airport (in north of country, has long run of data), when were those hours distributed through time.

Single-panel cartoon

A brown-skinned person cowers in a room with a broken window and glass on the floor, saying "DON'T SHOOT" to a white soldier with a rifle

The soldier is looking back at a man (also white) with a video camera, and is also saying "DON'T SHOOT"

Jon Kudelka drew this in 2004 and it's more relevant than ever. We're all poorer for the loss

The Board of Governors decided, unilaterally, that no published textbook in the field of sociology could be used in compliance with the law for an Intro to Sociology class. None.
Victor: There's not a single existing textbook on the market that could be used that would qualify under state law?
Zachary: Correct.
Victor: I'm sorry, that's kind of funny. Like, the absurdity of not a single sociology textbook getting past the censors. I mean, it makes me kind of proud of our colleagues, but...

I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.

Great work everyone.
