Not even python! About a decade ago I had a lawyer friend who wanted a small script to find things in a document that looked like court cases and… that’s just grep. “Make a small script that converts a pdf into text and run grep on it” is trivial to devs/LLM but completely unknown to most people!

So I have friends using it to make basic python programs or scripts, and it’s blowing their mind. That’s not LLM, it’s basic python.

One of the surprising things I’m finding is that there are certain skills software developers (or, at least, me) take for granted, and now people without those background have access to it. So I hear from people making small programs that seem mind blowing to them, but are basic automation to me.

I’ve only run over two miles in one stretch one time in my life because when it happened I felt so bad afterwords I thought I broke a rib or something.

There's a totally insane person (who was briefly banned for harassing sky marchini) that I've never interacted with who has me on block lists that she subscribes to.

He’s talking about someone who just won a primary (this very night) and might flip a senate seat. That… very much seems relevant for how the “dystopian nightmare” plays out.

You’re Canadian. Also Hayes didn’t go to Yale. Also he’s always been anti Trump?

It’s almost like Iran has 90 million people and some are happy and some are angry. Like are we really pretending that if the Iranians shot down Air Force One, everyone in America would have the same feeling on it, and it would be “upset”?

Mixed feelings when you die and become a flying angel, playing a little harp. Real “oooh I should have started with this” moment as you ascend.

I'm assuming this means a new detail came up that made you open up more research, but there is also the possibility of the feds coming to your house and shutting you down for revealing TOO MUCH. Why is it too much?

Also, Mankiw is cute but we know about people inheriting wealth without contributing anything, right? Does King Charles "produce" the crown? C'mon.

How do you fund a remedy? I'm not sure you can! Simply taking away the wealth reduces the harm to the system. We could burn the money in a big pit to produce a remedy! But that's wasteful, so we give it to good things we like in a one-off way. That's not really a "trade off," really.

The point of Pigouvian taxes (as you point out) is to reduce the activity. Ideally the tax goes to things that offset deadweight loss produced by the activity/tax. Cigarette taxes can fund hospitals, for example. The harm here is that billionaires break our political and economic systems.

There was one guy that got locked out of his apartment and lived in the office, and they had an arrangement where they paid for everyone to get fancy lunches every week he didn’t go home. They did all of this as a way of selling how fun the company was!

When I interviewed at Palantir 16 years ago they had toothbrushes in the bathrooms and, for “fun”, had “shire weeks” where they built pillow forts in the office and lived there for a week.

She brings strong stoner-snowboarder energy to figure skating. It's especially funny watching her interviews next to the tightly wound Amber Glenn.
Glenn: "My whole being is tied to this. I'm not just doing this for me, but the whole community rests on my shoulders"
Liu: "whatever..." ::gets gold::

One answer (among many) to question of "how is this different from what Trump is doing" is that, among other things, she presumably pays her American taxes.

I follow you because you have many of my interests, but also you know more about them, can do them a lot better, and are also much younger.
This is deeply unfair. I'm reading and learning, but also seething and coping. Just extremely educational hate reading.
