And I don't even like it. I have zero interest in online PvP. The point is, what I meant by pointing out those videos is that these people's argument is "Marathon is flopped because it has women/minorities in the dev team." It's not really any criticism of the actual game.
I think it's too early to judge. It's only been out for a day. And while Slay from Spire II is a success, it's riding on the success of the first game. Marathon faces a lot of initial skepticism due to Sony's track record with GaaS, which might be overcome or not, but is soon to sentence it.
Because I don't want to just complain, here's another recommendation thread of Steam games with relatively low reviews.
Starting with Anxiety Puppy, a narrative adventure that had an unfortunate release date, late last year, so it only got 100 reviews

Right? It seems like it wasn't originally intended for arcades, but it ended up being one. Probably not, but it certainly looks like it.
Thing is, despite having very positive reviews and a pretty decent player base, there is a lot "Marathon Flopped" videos on YouTube. I think it's wishful thinking on the part of those doomsayers; they need to convince people it's doing badly, otherwise their argument falls apart.

Opening cutscene to TwinBee RPG for PlayStation. That's right, this 1998 title is a role-playing game with the sentient mascot. And it has dating elements, so you sick shoot 'em up freaks can finally kiss a ship (that's not true. unfortunately, it also has human characters)

I did think about it being easy, that's exactly what I mean by the structure; they really do give you 5 hearts per life. The first time you might die more. But the second time you play? Easy. Plus, the animals that help you can give you a huge advantage.
But that same year Ridge Racer came out, among others, that was the big revolution of the time (positive, unlike today's). And there were still more things to come: the following year Rayman came out, the year after that Lomax, and the year after that Megaman X4, or one I really like, Harmful Park.
I know, I was there. For every Spyro, Ridge Racer, etc., there were dozens of much less polished games, some of which still have a lot of charm. But it was the logical step back then, and it paved the way for some pretty great games by the end of the generation and until today.
Yeah, I agree. that's exactly what I was telling someone else. it was a time when 3D graphics were taking off, and that's what people expected to see in the new consoles.

I'm surprised this game never got released. Maybe not for arcades, because it's true it might be too long for an arcade and doesn't have a very arcade-like structure. But for the Saturn or the PS1? Especially since it was practically finished.
Besides, it's beautifully designed.
