We are in history's classroom and the teacher is going to keep making the lessons easier and easier until we get it.
But now? Now the guy simply scratches his ass and says "I felt like starting a war so I did" and the pundits and congresspeople all shrug and say "well yeah, I mean... he felt like it. What more do you want." No pretense. Just empire.
At the time all that lying seemed to make the whole thing so much worse. Like it wasn't enough to murder hundreds of thousands of people, we were expected to smile about it and start excusing the atrocities before they'd even been committed yet.
--but pundits and politicians across the political spectrum joined together to work their asses off, for years on end, to pretend they didn't know that. To make believe it was more than a bloodsoaked imperial misadventure on one man's whim.
It's a real mindfuck to look back on all the pretense of the 2003 Iraq war. There were WMDs but don't ask for proof; there was some kind of link to 9/11 but don't ask what exactly. It was slap-in-the-face obvious from the start that the justifications were absolute bullshit--

Abolish the legal gender marker entirely. No government can be trusted to have a database of which people have changed theirs, no government has any business tracking what your gender is "supposed" to be in the first place.
Lots of supposed liberals/leftists have insisted that trans people stop fighting for our rights because "kitchen table issues" or whatever.
What we're seeing in Kansas right now is the natural outcome of you throwing us under the bus.
