Have you wondered why exactly it is that single-family zoning leads to racial segregation? I wrote this little article to figure it out. I use an agent based model to show it is a combination of race-based wealth inequality, homophily, & clustering of housing types in zoning maps.

π¨New publication! Thrilled to finally see this paper out in @psrm.bsky.social π
πI study how gender shapes coalition preferences among politicians. Turns out mayors prefer forming governments with women-led parties, perceiving them as better communicators and more competent governors.

The politics of perception: how beliefs about womenβs inclusion shape democratic legitimacy in the US, by Katelyn Stauffer
One of my favorite Christmas gifts this year was "The Politics of Perception," sent to me by the brilliant author, @kstauffer.bsky.social. It's a must-read book about how & why Americans' (mis)perceptions of πΊ's political representation influence their efficacy, trust, approval of institutions.

2025 Barney Ford Lab Annual Meeting/PRIEC
The Barney Ford Lab at CU Boulder is happy to announce that we are welcoming proposals for our annual meeting. Our annual meeting will take place in beautiful Boulder CO on Friday September 19th, 2025...
Re-sharing now that graduations are (mostly) done. Boulder is hosting a mini conference on race, gender, and immigration politics broadly on 9/19. We're hoping to provide an in-person alternative to APSA for those who can't or don't feel comfortable traveling outside US.
