We are the eco-socialist working group of the Richmond, VA chapter of DSA, working to advance environmental and climate justice in and around RVA. New site/blog coming soon!

Calling your reps and senators can feel really nerve racking at first. We actually did an episode about this on How to Save a planet which I cannot fucking find but an easy solution is to do it with a friend.
The more you do it the less stressful it gets.
Trumpβs illegal, unjustified participation in attacking Iran is just yet another distraction from the #EpsteinFiles and the trail of suffering heβs left in the U.S. as people struggle to live under worsening effects of climate change and rising housing, healthcare, and education costs. #ImpeachTrump
The project will nearly double the size of Lewis Ginterβs conservatory, add 7.5 acres of new outdoor spaces, and incorporate an additional lake into the visitor experience.

βThe climate scientists we surveyed were unambiguous: current economic models canβt capture what matters most β the cascading failures and compounding shocks that define climate risk in a warmer world β and could undermine the very foundations of economic growth.β
Should be the top story everyday.
a man in Oklahoma was speaking out against a data center in his community. He went a few seconds over time and the city had him arrested for trespassing
Petersburg City Council approved two motions that would pave the way for a data center near a residential area of the city.
We're really all just losing our collective minds, aren't we?

The chapter convention is this Saturday, 1pm at the Fairfield Library in #RVA.
The working group will be voting soon to decide which of three possible campaigns to propose to the chapter as a whole for this year:
1. Repeal of local ordinances that prohibit or restrict front-yard vegetable gardens and native plantings
2. Public power - end privately owned, for-profit utilities

#BoycottAmazon and cancel your Ring subscriptions (which you should do anyway since they cooperate with I.C.E.)
Another great Hour of Action this evening, this time with record turnout (24!). Thanks to everyone who braved the cold and ice to help us lobby state delegates to support HB 888 which puts a cap on parking minimums statewide! Great work! #RVA
Respectfully, this is the wrong question. The question is, do we need data centers? And the answer is no. They power A.I. which benefits no working class person. When the AI bubble bursts, the facilities can easily be converted to I.C.E. detention centers.
Oh thatβs a shame. bsky.app/profile/carc...
Join us for our next Hour of Action this Tuesday, 7pm at VΓ€sen Brewing as we lobby the General Assembly to lift parking minimums statewide! RSVP here: luma.com/sqdkkuto #RVA

The image is a flyer announcing a series of community events in February to oppose the construction of data centers in the Hanover, Virginia area. The layout is clean and organized, with a light cream background and prominent use of black and red text. The main title "FEBRUARY EVENTS" is at the top, followed by the subtitle "KEEP UP THE FIGHT AGAINST DATA CENTERS | PROTECT HANOVER." The events are listed in two columns, each with the date highlighted in red, followed by the time, location, and a brief description. The events include community meetings, town halls, a lobby day in Richmond, and several public comment opportunities at county board and planning commission meetings. A bold, red octagonal graphic on the left side, styled like a stop sign, contains the message "STOP HANOVER DATA CENTERS" in white letters. At the bottom, there is a photograph from a nighttime protest showing a crowd holding signs. One prominent sign in the foreground reads, "Grow Tomatoes Not Data Centers."
More events for opposing data centers are coming up next month! #NoDataCenters #RVA
Lot of opportunities coming up in February to oppose the data center epidemic! #NoDataCenters #RVA #Virginia
The owner of the property that I.C.E. was in the process of buying in Hanover for a detention facility announced this morning that they are cancelling the sale! Thanks so much to everyone who showed up in the cold and snow/ice to make their voices heard!
Bad news obviously but across the country people of both political persuasions are coming together to put a stop to the data center epidemic. I read the other day that 24 data center projects have been halted by grassroots activists last year!
Thank you for voting no, but we need to go further than that and abolish ICE altogether. It was created under the dubious auspices of βpreventing terrorismβ; guardrails can be weakened and removed by a future Congress/administration. Best way to prevent terrorism is to end US imperialist policy
