In the early 1990s, only about 1,300 manatees remained in Florida’s waters.

Today, their population has grown to more than six times that – all thanks to laws like the Endangered Species Act and people taking action to protect them. 💙

THANK YOU to everyone who got involved in our latest #BigRiverWatch! 💙

More than 4,100 of you got outside, spent time by your local rivers, and became citizen scientists.

Together, you submitted over 2,300 surveys and spent an incredible 43 days watching our rivers. 👏

You can help Hedgehogs this summer... by doing absolutely nothing! Leaving a section of your garden wild and undisturbed can provide a hog haven, and support countless other species. 🦔

You can record these areas to help monitoring at the link below ⬇

Here is some fun news! This fancy lady spider with a shiny mirrorball for a booty is a newly described species as of yesterday! I heard from the scientist who described her and my photos will be running in a local paper in Ecuador!

A mature male Scarce Chaser clings to a branch above a fishing lake. He is a medium-sized dragonfly with a hairy dark brown thorax and a chalky blue abdomen with a black tip. His eyes are pale blue and his face is black. His wings are clear, except for black pterostigmata, and black patches at the wing bases with a hint of yellow staining around them. The background is a diffuse pale blue, and the dragonfly and his perch are centred in the bottom right corner of the image, leaving quite a lot of clean negative space.
