This image captures the picturesque fishing village of Staithes on the North Yorkshire coast of England. Once one of the largest fishing ports in the region, it is now a popular tourist destination The village is known for its quaint, tightly packed cottages, steep, winding cobbled streets, and a small, sheltered harbour.
It was once home to a young Captain Cook, who worked there as a shop assistant.
The village has a strong artistic heritage and is home to the renowned Staithes Gallery, showcasing local art. The pub visible by the water is the "Cod and Lobster," a traditional pub that has been rebuilt multiple times after being damaged by the sea.

This is a British political cartoon from 1815 titled The Blessings of Peace or the Curse of the Corn Bill, published by S.W. Fores and etched by George Cruikshank. It satirizes the Corn Laws of 1815, which imposed high tariffs on imported grain to protect British landowners from foreign competition, keeping domestic grain prices high.
The cartoon depicts the stark contrast between the wealthy landowners (the "masters") on the shore, who are determined to keep prices high at "80 shillings" per quarter, and the impoverished "poor" who are struggling to afford food. Image. British Museum CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

Introduced in 1815, the Corn Laws imposed tariffs on imported grain to protect British landowners by keeping food prices high. While they safeguarded rural interests, they were bitterly resented in industrial areas, where expensive bread weighed heavily on working-class 1/5

Some people are just so cruel. I left 2 cinema tickets to Melania on the dashboard of my car. When I got back, someone had put the window through and left another 4 next to them.

The road connects the railway stations at Garsdale and Dent in
It is an unclassified highway, historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. The name "Coal Road" originates from its use for transporting locally mined coal. Prior to its use for coal transport, it served as a droving route between England and Scotland. Yorkshire's Green lanes are ancient, unpaved rural routes, often former Roman roads, medieval packhorse routes, or drovers' roads that fell into disuse as modern roads were developed, yet remain as public highways (Byways Open to All Traffic or Unclassified County Roads). Notable

This image depicts the execution of the surviving conspirators involved in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. The plot was a failed attempt by English Catholics to assassinate King James I by blowing up the Houses of Parliament.
The conspirators were sentenced to the traditional punishment for traitors: hanging, drawing, and quartering.
The executions of the eight surviving men took place in January 1606 at Westminster. Guy Fawkes managed to avoid the full agony of the punishment with his neck being broken on the gallows.

The Government is planning to send King Charles to the US to celebrate with Trump. Giving him a royal visit right now sends a terrible message that his behaviour is acceptable. We can stop this if enough of us speak up. Will you add your name to the petition? you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ca...
