Ahhh, I can see what you mean. I'm looking at a lot of international feeds and seeing headlines about Kuwait, Lebanon, UAE, etc. Certainly U.S. troops too. But this wasn't intended as some U.S. centric post. Just remarking on headlines diminishing how bad this will get.
Headlines are counting off narrow categories like 6 US troops, or numbers in countries besides Iran.
They all count, as do the hundreds (thousands?) of innocent people already lost IN Iran. Media is reaching for numbers they can verify, but the reality is this is surely so much worse already.
Headlines talking about US military standing out to me right now. They might be accurate, but they also feel naive.
I'm only referring to the way headlines are treating it. Indeed, hundreds (thousands?) are dead and every loss is horrible.
Each is a tragedy. A lot of news headlines are counting off in small numbers, which is how it felt early Covid. One death here. A couple there. The reality is that way more people have likely been killed than we realize. Surely hundreds of innocent people already killed.
Watching headlines about Iran with single-digit death counts feels like the early days of Covid.
Each death is heartbreaking. And you also get the feeling that soon, this moment will feel like simpler times when we could count the losses on two hands.
