I had a nice birthday present this morning in the form of this 1st winter Caspian Gull, found @ #RSPB Lodmoor alongside Nevil. A fairly well marked bird, although still within acceptable parameters I think, that was present for an hour or so before flying off strongly SW @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
Serin just pitched in a tree top at the Obs
Fingers crossed
Gotta love those head plumes!! 😍😍😍
Yeah! Just finished some shopping in Topshom when the message came up, very glad I brought my scope now!

Last Yeovil record of Willow Tit was at Ninesprings in 1989 I believe. Just a single Marsh Tit left wintering there in 2019 and none since as far as I know 😢
Might just be the lodmoor report that was corrected?
The now annual Forster’s Tern has reappeared in the harbour this evening, several weeks earlier than previous years. More typically it’s been appearing in late March. Wonder how long it will hang around?? @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social

Was thinking of knocking it on the head for the day, when I decided to take one more look at Pilning Wetland. Glad I did, as this Hooded Merganser had just arrived ahead of a bank of low cloud and drizzle. Needless to say, a patch lifer! Pic: @matthall95.bsky.social #ukbirding
Ross’s Gull at Newlyn, Cornwall this morning (22nd Feb 2026). Found on the 21st in Newlyn harbour by Shaun Grose.
This is the 9th for Cornwall and my fourth. The last record was in 2020 when an adult was found at Gerrans Bay on 1st Jan.
