When Hegseth got in I said there are three types who join the Guard: the former active duty who want or need to keep a hand in; the warehouseman and so forth who wants the extra money and education; and people who want to play soldier. The latter group is small, but you should be afraid of them.

The way the US Navy is deployed is a tell that you’re right. They weren’t expecting to have to possibly fight their way into Straits of Hormuz and open that vital waterway back up. Had they expected a longer campaign more many ships would be in the area.

I have sympathy for this. I am tempted to do it. I was tempted. I've done it. It was part of the problem in '60. You can't do it. You'll wear the hell out. It's a delicate business. Like teaching a kid to drive. It's their hand on the wheel but your eyes on the road.

My God.

I am not hearing anything in public or private that convinces me they expected more than Iran to be over a week or two.

I was one of the first to say Hormuz was closed or in the process of closing. When it broke some idiot here made a point of saying he didn't trust the sources, "that was yesterday," the price of oil was fine, etc. He will probably see this and I could say kiss my ass. But that would be wrong.

Apart from the fact that anyone who'd shoot a dog would shoot a person, it's that a dog will never betray you. He'll gladly die for you. People know this. You don't have to like dogs to know it. It's been bred into people like we breed things into dogs. The violation of it sickens people.

I mean it. I don't like saying people will swing, but they will get Noem. There's already talk about money. You can't shoot a dog. And someone will come out of the woodwork and say, "Well, what about the people." Sure. But you can't shoot a dog. People remember that.

Capone went down for tax evasion.

If a tree falls on your enemy, you don't cry he had an easy death. You dig a deep hole to make sure he stays in it.

Maybe this is @dicknixon.bsky.social's influence, but my favorite thing about Noem's firing is that poor dumb Marco Rubio still thinks he's gonna be president.

I think so.

They are going to get Noem on something. She shot a dog. Give it four or so years.

You never let them smell fear. In doing so it helps not to be afraid.

Compare this to Richard Nixon, the most awkward person who ever lived, who nevertheless, properly prepared, could shake hands with people who wanted to kill him & often come out ahead

I don’t rule anything out.

This Sheehy business ...

I know for a fact it is being discussed.

That is, Rubio, if he had talent or intelligence, might find some room to maneuver - he's always been a neoconservative at heart. Of course that's a moot point. Vance is screwed left, right, and sideways. You don't get to come up as the second coming of Bob Taft and sink ships in the Indian Ocean.

There was talk here that Crockett played that card because it was a sure thing to win. I said it was a thing to turn her base out. Those things are related, but different.

It was a ship. Nevertheless.

They sank a submar... what? The Indian Ocean? What?

Talking like that gets people killed.

We have not commented on that briefing because I considered it self-evident, but since we've been asked: Democrats don't leak like that unless the room is on fire.

Yes.

I am surprised at Talarico. He ran a good campaign, but it was a general election campaign. If he won a primary like this, the other side has something to sweat about.
