it's funny that referring to 'social media' makes whatever you're about to say sound inane by association even though it's the thing that's happening to all of us

besides the personal eugenics angle i think it’s an attempt to salve insecurity about his relationship with the world. subconsciously he’s somewhat aware everyone around him is a sycophant and everyone else hates him, so he’s trying to literally manufacture genuine connections, and he’ll always fail
