Great article. Funny how the WWII centric games now feel benign by comparison. Though, the FPS as a genre was always compromised & problematic. An echo chamber of jingoism and war relishing. Killing Nazis was trojan horse.
Where I urge you to stop posting steam concurrent charts because you're scaring the hoes. It's me. I'm the hoes.
It would be cool to see the most privileged people in my industry do the absolute minimum and reckon with games mediaβs laundering the war on terror but I donβt think they have the self awareness to see their culpability or the mutual respect to consider me a colleague anyways so
TIER rules! If you haven't read them please do yourself a favor and check them out. imo the best writing on games hands-down.

Itβs @exalclaw.bsky.social on Mothership, at long last! Here Wallace dives into why itβs important to treat your Black characters as, well, Black characters.

I love King Hybris! Real shitty guy. Replaying through DQ VII this time around really drove home how much the game is like Arabian Nights or The Dog Pillow. An omnibus of tales and myths woven into a whole. Extremely funny yet full of humanity.
CD is 100 dollars or so short of sustainability. Incredibly valuable resource for anyone who cares about games, whether for research or just casual reading. Also like... look lmao, web's as fractured as it's ever been. Having the roundup gather a bunch of cool stuff you'd never see otherwise is good
Just because something is easy doesn't mean your focus on it isn't rewarding. Here's me on why you shouldn't play Dragon Quest VII Reimagined on autopilot, like focusing on form even when the exercise isn't demanding.
Honestly, It's okay if they never release a new game again.
This is actually kind of cool.
Narrative game devs & marketers! I want to talk to you about marketing narrative games for a video. I've already set up a couple of chats, but would love to hear from a few more ppl.
If you're down to answer a few questions, on-cam or otherwise, DMs are open! So is my email exalclaw[at]gmail.com!
In late February we celebrate 40 years of The Legend of Zelda and 30 years of PokΓ©mon. For L'Indiscreto, I wrote about these videogames as attempts to recover a lost rural Japan that perhaps never truly existed. (article in ITA)
Virtue and a Sledgehammer is a narrative experience.
Who would have thought that so much narrative could be delivered through a hammer?

Wrote about what it means that Concord β a game that famously nobody played β has become one of the primary lenses through which video games are discussed today.

I met him once at an airport bar. He told me that he was the guy that made the music for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but was was never credited.

Between e-waste, rare materials, logistics, and now genAI, gaming's impact on the global climate is significant.
