Ruth from the Heritage Centre shared this exact page with me a day or two ago - how serendipitous. I loved your conversation with Jimmy and would love to find out if he knows anything more. Once I find some employment here in Scotland I would love to buy a physical or digital copy of Rag Stones.
What a monumental post.
This has felt extremely fortunate to come across - I am working on a book about my family history and it seems possible that my 4x great grandfather may have been one of Mackenzie's men who helped to build the Galloway Dyke on Sanday.
Who else has been watching Somebody Somewhere? I can't believe it's over but wow, what a beautiful show and a satisfying ending.
Fun! Thanks for the suggestion and the site 🎅🏻
Ōtautahi / Christchurch, I'm feeling festive. Beyond the Ballantynes window and Shands Road, what other Christmas institutions are essential?
Is there an NBA feed or NBAsky? Help. 🏀
The interface is certainly looking a lot cleaner and more user-friendly since I last logged in.
So . . . are we booting Bluesky back up?
Anyway after forgetting to take snaps at some cute speak easy bars & spending half a day at a kids science museum, here's some photos from BC.
When we arrived 12 hours late in NZ, Air NZ took over and offered us accommodation, a buffet breakfast, the next available flight to Christchurch, helped us track down a missing bag from Air Canada, amazing service. I think I take for granted how good our national carrier is.
Back in Aotearoa and I'm telling you, never fly Air Canada. They delayed our flight from 11:45pm to 2:25am to 8am to 11:30am. We were told to sleep on the floor in the airport but made us leave the secure area, they left 120 bags from 1 flight back in Vancouver. They didn't apologise or explain.
My monthly remembering I use Bluesky and posting snaps from my current excursions. Today's update, I'm in Canada but took a lil day trip to see Motown Studio A in Detroit. Truely magic to be in the room where the greatest songs of all time were written and recorded.
Kia oraaaaa Emma! Yeah, worlds colliding for sure, although I've been terrible at keeping up with the world of Bluesky. Alright okay I'll have to check it out when I'm back in Christchurch before the year kicks in. Hope you've managed something of a holiday break!
Does the 90 day trial apply to the Prime Minister?
Also stream Ōtautahi’s finest, Agnes Aleesy. Thank me later.

Another weekend in Ōtautahi. A march for Palestine, seeing Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE film (incredible), Akin for breakfast again, a haircut, exploring the art gallery and art centre once again, topped off with the new Studio Ghibli film, the Boy and the Heron.
Since I’ve been so bad at keeping up to date on Bluesky, here are 4 photos from the past month in Ōtautahi.
1. Palestinian Marches
2. Akin has been a great addition to the cafe scene in Ōtautahi Christchurch (as has Olympia).
3. Troy Kingi at the Church (acoustics not great).
4. The Gardens
Love this - admittedly have never actually been to the Afghan restaurant so maybe this is my excuse!
Kia ora Pearse! I’m honoured to get a mention, I’ve really let Bluesky slip off the radar. Ōtautahi is certainly home for me so I’d love to show you around. If you’re on IG my handle is 03_todd? Otherwise I’m sure we can find some other way.
A windscreen has been smashed by a stray roadworks sign on Memorial Ave #ōtautahi
Not covering roads but one is slightly covering a turn off. Another one is from a private property onto a footpath.
A tree has fallen on a moving car next to Hagley Park. A few trees down on Memorial Ave. A portaloo has left a building site and is blocking a footpath on Sherborne Street. Kia mataara Ōtautahi.
I haven’t been on Bluesky in more than a month and this is the best notification to get me back on here. You best bet I’m about to book now, thank you so much.
Finally leaving the house post tooth removal. Liquid diet but not holding back on sunshine and books.
I guess it’s time to go and get a tooth ripped out 🦷
They have an image to upkeep after that Woodhouse demotion.
I have just started reading Fungi of Aotearoa and I’m insanely jealous you’re finding some cool little fungi up there.
Four books stacked up as bought at Word Christchurch.
A small haul this year at Word Christchurch [even including Lilia Tarawa’s book which my partner bought & I can’t wait to read] but more than enough to keep me entertained until Japan in September.
