Well, the blizzard wasn't as big here as expected! But it was still something like 4-6" and then there've been all sorts of other smallish storms, like Tuesday night, another 4-5". Tonight we're supposed to get some sort of mixed stuff... We can't even keep track!

I so agree with you about that paragraph & the ensuing silence, which I think about often, given how much it snows here.

Oddly, the paragraph has particular resonance for me after seeing James Joyce's The Dead on Broadway with Christopher Walken... I don't like musicals much but loved this one.

The author we've been reading seems to love cats: all three of her books include them in some way(s)! The second book included a dog, too, but he was out of the picture, as it were, for a long time.

It's never too much, Rohan! Especially since cats love to read books, too. Edwina hops up in my lap almost every evening to read in Ukrainian! (Our current book does include cats...)

One of my professors read passages of books we were studying, as undergrads and grad students. I didn't understand why until I started translating fiction & reading my drafts out loud, to hear the voices I create in English. It's one of the most important steps in my translation practice.

Thank you for this nice moment! It makes me so happy to hear about parents who get lots of books to read to their kids.

I have one of those, too, and have asked myself the same question many times. It's still here.

I saw this skeet a few minutes after a Zoom meeting with a translator frolleague... And (a bit different but related) the last topic we talked about was footnotes. I'm big on interaction and marginalia, too -- as well as notes to self on back endpapers -- but I don't enjoy footnotes!

So true about leftovers and storms! I hope *you* stay snug and warm despite that fierce wind. Everything's waxing and waning here. Right now it's windy but less snowy... but it was the opposite a short while ago.
