I'm unsure how people really think people were downplaying a virus that can kill you, make you go blind, wipe out your immune system for years, and oh yeah come back and kill you a decade after you thought you'd shaken it.

Wishcessibility - Nic Chan As I see it, wishcessibility isn’t a single specific bad practice, it’s anything that inadvertently hurts accessibility when you’re trying to improve it.

Accessibility is not a wish. It is a discipline. Nic Chan’s β€œWishcessibility” challenges the habit of hoping accessibility will happen instead of engineering it intentionally. Inclusive design requires planning, accountability, and craft.

DHS feeds talking points to Republicans as opposition to ICE warehouses swells DHS sent talking points to Republican officials to promote migrant detention centers while communities complained about a lack of transparency.

Local Republicans are getting slammed so hard on ICE warehouse plans that DHS is having to feed them talking points

It's critical through all of this to remember that people who are doing the work of persuasion can't fly into a rage at anti-vaxxers. Contempt and rage from healthcare providers, from city or state or federal public health officials - that gets us nowhere.

They have a job to do, they're looking at years of research into how best to persuade people who are opposed to vaccinating their kids. They're doing a job and they're doing a hell of a tough job - it's difficult persuasion.

I’m currently writing a book about what’s really wrong with #SCOTUS and how to fix it.

Humanity heating planet faster than ever before, study finds Researchers identify sharp rise to about 0.35C every decade, after excluding natural fluctuations such as El NiΓ±o

It doesn’t matter whether the rate of global warming is increasing. It’ll never cease to amaze me that people don’t care that it’s happening at all. It should be the most alarming thing ever.

The Guardian on our new study, which shows that global heating is significantly gathering speed. Our efforts to overcome our fossil fuel addiction should do the same.

Graph of award probability of R35 and R01 from NIH factbook as a function of review rank percentile. As is apparent, 2025 is a significant departure, with lower award probabilities at all scores <40 and significant departures from norm, where even being in the top 10% is no longer a nearly certain indicator of success.

The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted.

What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards.

Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.

The impacts of Trump's attacks on science can be found in every nook and cranny of the discovery pipeline. This chart from @joshuasweitz.bsky.social shows that even with a funding INCREASE in 2026, LESS SCIENCE is being funded.

That means fewer cures and treatments.

What an ad. Today, about 38% of our rail is electrified. India just hit 100%.

The oil didn't run out, as we've drilled in ever more dangerous places (eg DeepWater Horizon) and in dictatorships. But it's suffers the same problems that OPEC showed in the 1970s.

Electrify everything.

I'm not suggesting this is an open secret within the climate science community, but it's remarkable how little impact this sort of research is generating. Because if the rate of warming really has *doubled* then you can kiss goodbye to 2Β°C. www.carbonbrief.org/pace-of-glob...
