I'm unsure how people really think people were downplaying a virus that can kill you, make you go blind, wipe out your immune system for years, and oh yeah come back and kill you a decade after you thought you'd shaken it.

Accessibility is not a wish. It is a discipline. Nic Chanβs βWishcessibilityβ challenges the habit of hoping accessibility will happen instead of engineering it intentionally. Inclusive design requires planning, accountability, and craft.

It's critical through all of this to remember that people who are doing the work of persuasion can't fly into a rage at anti-vaxxers. Contempt and rage from healthcare providers, from city or state or federal public health officials - that gets us nowhere.
They have a job to do, they're looking at years of research into how best to persuade people who are opposed to vaccinating their kids. They're doing a job and they're doing a hell of a tough job - it's difficult persuasion.
SΓ‘nchez: βYou may have heard that Spain is alone. Theyβre the same people who said that when we recognized the State of Palestine, and then others followed.
βWe are not alone β we are the first. Those who will end up alone are the ones defending the indefensible.β
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro SΓ‘nchez: βA country that always defends human rights and international law, like Spain, earns the respect of the entire world, as has happened in recent weeks.β

Suffice it to say, this ainβt it:

It doesnβt matter whether the rate of global warming is increasing. Itβll never cease to amaze me that people donβt care that itβs happening at all. It should be the most alarming thing ever.
Abolish DHS, abolish ICE
This makes no sense and it is disgraceful and incomprehensible that this is the president of the United States, with lethal force at his disposal, communicating in wartime.
Itβs hackneyed now but it should never be: donβt normalize this.

Graph of award probability of R35 and R01 from NIH factbook as a function of review rank percentile. As is apparent, 2025 is a significant departure, with lower award probabilities at all scores <40 and significant departures from norm, where even being in the top 10% is no longer a nearly certain indicator of success. Data source: https://report.nih.gov/nihdatabook/report/302
The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted.
What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards.
Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.
The impacts of Trump's attacks on science can be found in every nook and cranny of the discovery pipeline. This chart from @joshuasweitz.bsky.social shows that even with a funding INCREASE in 2026, LESS SCIENCE is being funded.
That means fewer cures and treatments.

The oil didn't run out, as we've drilled in ever more dangerous places (eg DeepWater Horizon) and in dictatorships. But it's suffers the same problems that OPEC showed in the 1970s.

Using healthcare professionals as a case study, the Article meets this perilous moment in U.S. history by thinking seriously about disobedience as a response to institutional failures

I'm not suggesting this is an open secret within the climate science community, but it's remarkable how little impact this sort of research is generating. Because if the rate of warming really has *doubled* then you can kiss goodbye to 2Β°C. www.carbonbrief.org/pace-of-glob...

Yes. And we have to talk about this now, because talking about it is the first step to making it seem like a callous crime rather than a surprising emergency.
