Ugly laws: the blueprint for Trump's anti-homeless crusade
DC's crackdown is just the latest in a long war on being poor and disabled in public.
Ugly laws led to poor, disabled people being institutionalized. It's now part of the strategy Trump plans to use to get rid of unhoused people, in DC and beyond.
For @motherjones.com, I spoke to @okaysoldierschweik.bsky.social, who wrote a book about ugly laws.

Why is learning faster a motivating concept? It's core marketing for pushing edtech tools. I know people want to qualify faster but most _learning_ theory is about the success of the slow burn.

Really helpful thread @drbevans.bsky.social off to read your webpage now. A practical challenge is how to support extensions without more pressure on staff when final return deadlines (for exam boards/grad) arn't negotiable. A (rejected) suggestion was not to permit extensions at certain times....

🧵 I’m organising workshops where autistic people can help plan research. I’m looking for a few autistic people to take part, either in a text (typed) discussion, or on a Teams video call. I’ll ask what you think about different ideas for research on the general theme of ‘autistic & thriving’. 1/5

Ballet, beauty, and the joy of wheelchair dance
Since childhood, Kate Stanforth has danced whenever and wherever she could. The only difference now is her wheelchair.
Joy as a disabled person is a radical act.
I have edited a series for Wellcome Collection Stories which explores what it means to be joyful, defiant and disabled.
The series starts with a passionate performance by @katestanforthdance.bsky.social

colleagues too, it took me ages to realise when I was at Lancaster that I, colleagues, and students had up to three different half term weeks between us (and life could have been much simpler as colleagues could cover for each other)
#1000SmallThings is a great thread Ria, thank you for sharing.

RIP Devva Kasnitz - a truly inspirational, kind, fiery disability scholar and activist! The DS community has lost a kindred spirit, but she will never be forgotten. An infrastructural activist whose influence knows no bounds. Thank you for all you’ve taught me 💛

MacArthur genius Alice Wong on resistance in the new year: ‘Life is a dumpster fire, but I’m not alone’
The activist and ‘disabled oracle’ reflects on a moment that changed her life – and why she finds solace in sci-fi
Great to see an interview with @sfdirewolf.bsky.social by @maanvisingh.bsky.social on @theguardian.com today. As radical, hopeful and powerful as ever 'Anger transforms into a battery charger that gives me a boost when it’s sorely needed.' #DisabledOracle
