now I realize I got so distracted by my thoughts, I left out what I originally wanted to say when I started: I love the body language, flashy Kaeya but Dainsleif's expression being very minimal and restrained, as opposed to the one part of himself Dain can't control—blush—being so dramatic+obvious

They do say that the better you get at something, the more intuitive it gets!

Haha that was a lot so I'll stop talking now... but it *is* making me want to draw the domestic bits of my own dainkae AUs for this month

Or maybe Dain just enjoys the sight and the attention 😉 ....and Kaeya's eye color /eyeliner(?) / lip combo, which goes great with the other purples the shadows, plates, hair etc. You can tell I'm a little obsessed with the color composition here

I love that bright little blush. Perfectly matches the shirt, flower, card edge color (all Kaeya's display and not really anywhere else! Things Kaeya is using to show his affection, also the color Dainsleif uses to react with his!) like Kaeya sharing the color with him, bringing it into his life. It warms up the palette and has way more saturation than anything else in the room. (The color of romance...) Especially because it's the complementary color/contrast to the green of their surroundings reflecting on Dain. Kaeya doing big showy love gifts in addition to the stable homey love around them (dishes... probably kitchen... cute plain green houseplant in the back...) (Plus mirroring the rose palette on Dain's face simply looks good.)

The other main warm color is gold, which isn't an attention-grabbing focal point like the red, but is sort of 'creeping in' from the top background and shining on them. Warm happy coziness dripping into his 'boring' busywork, making the setting homey instead of impersonal. Everyone say thank you Kaeya. Bright and a little abstract. Contrasting with the very defined, physical dishes with muted and mundane cool colors and browns... except for that little gold ring hiding among them in the foreground. EVERYONE SAY THANK YOU KAEYA. And can I say I adore? Dainsleif doing the dishes? Casual housechores for each other being quite literally where the marriage is? In spite of the dramatic wooing?

And I adore lots of little other things, like the plush velvet texture of the rose, the pretty jewelry, and little fabric spikes (for lack of a better word) made by Kaeya's sleeve cuffs, which bring to mind the silhouette of his uniform sleeve cuffs and thus feel very 'him'. He's just a little sharp on the edges ♥️ and has very extra fashion taste

Went to a big screen so I could appreciate it better.. 💕 I ended up with a longer comment than I meant to, so I took it to my notes app for a screenshot + pasted it into the alt text. That seems easier to read than a reply string, though let me know if I'm wrong.

Ooo, occurring to me now the celestial pillars are notable in part for repelling the Abyss, so *maybe* it's a metaphorical title? Which is why they didn't translate it directly & did Sentinel Knight? Pure speculation, though

I think I originally saw Thrain's translation discrepancy re:pillar in CN pointed out by.. checking, post's username is yaeggravate on Tumblr? & I looked into the parts a little more from personal curiosity. Note I'm not good w/ Chinese, so I'm being very literal & probably losing nuance.

Hm. From an Enkanomiyan NPC & idk where to find that text in Chinese, so no idea know if it uses the same word as Hadura. The death/moon/Ronova/Khaenri'ah link is interesting, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Probably Hadura refers to a different Khaenri'ahn location than Boat's afterlife, tho?

So it's something like Thrain, Knight of the Heavenly Pillar, and Hadura, Guardian of the Golden Palace (with sentinel working well as a translation in both cases)

Hadura's is directly Gold Palace (Gold Palace Guardian, I think they picked a very pretty way to translate that!) and Khaenri'ah is pretty nordic, so I'd say it's a likely reference. I think there's an artifact or something that references golden halls too, but I don't remember where 🤔

& Hadura indicates champion, guardian, moreso than the specific profession of knight (though obviously they are on). Or some places say bodyguard? But that seems contextual and not applicable here.

Also can be defined more specifically as a calvary, 骑 means horse rider & 骑士 technicallt calvaryman, but in contexts like this I think it's being used as generalized knight soldier, since they seem more for robots than horses lol

Which ofc brings to mind the Celestial Nuke, so I would've loved if they kept or explained that. Also curious if the matching Sentinel was an oversight or deliberate translation choice

Neat thing! In OG Chiness, Sentinel of the Golden Hall 天柱骑士 has a different word than Sentinel Knight 金殿卫士. I don't know if Eng changed it to make a consistent type of title, but the first two character seem to mean (online translators) (sky-)heaven+pillar/column; lit.Knight of the Heavenly Pillar

woah... it's looking great! Whenever I saw the prep pics on x, I was impressed by how soft you managed to make his face look. Seeing now it's way bigger than I realized with the comparison. Doing 'huge canvas' art intimidates me, but good luck on this one! & love the base drawing/concept.
