Yea the infinite workspace is still terrible I miss my windows.
But TBH I mostly only use the actual editor for compiling and dropping in resources. I use LDtk for level layouts and design and the GMEdit for coding.
Works out OK for me, but I definitely get not wanting to bother.

Have you played with GM.Live at all? I've heard it can be useful, though it doesn't really work with my workflow (LDTK) last I tried it (2-3 years ago)

Tried getting back in a year or so ago and it was just awful. I realy enjoyed my time with D1 & D2 but man I dislike what it's become (and to some extent always was)
I really loved D2 up until Shadowkeep, but I felt like with every expansion/major-update they kept making the grind thicker and thicker.
Launch and first few I could have a great time playing an hour or two a day, get some loot, play some MP, but it just kept asking for more and more.
They don't tell you this when you start building local music libraries, then one day you're like "Man this song sounds wrong" and you look, and you realize that suddently you care about the bitrates and all this bullshit you never thought about before.
Well, I guess I'm a FLAC guy now.
