Just received news that 27 people have been arrested in Parliament Square under the Terrorism Act 2000 for holding signs saying "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action".
This is real police state behaviour.
See also recent article with Louise Doherty on the embers and fragments of youth work policy, haunted by ghosts of a valued tradition of publicly funded, practice-led youth work that refuses to disappear... and will rise again! www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
And why was NCS money not redirected to open access youth work, as we've all been suggesting for years? Recommended reading, "Where next for youth work" by Gemma Lockyer Turnbull, recently published in Youth and Policy. www.youthandpolicy.org/articles/whe...
It's always great to see youth work in a spending review. But this is a tiny amount of funding, much of which had already been committed, and doesn't make up for what's been lost. We urgently need funding to employ and support more grassroots youth workers, and bursaries for youth work uni courses.
On the work of Ambalavaner Sivanandan, Gerlin Bean & Len Garrison
βThe eventβs focus will include questions of methods and ethics, action and legacy, remembrance and representationβ

βΌοΈKCL management has demanded that the student Palestine encampment disband by 10 today or face disciplinary action. This is an unacceptable repression of their fundamental rights to protest and freedom of speech.Β We have written to management to call for dialogue over coercion
Solidarity with our KCL students, who have launched another encampment on the Strand Quadrangle, rejecting the universityβs complicity in the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and demanding the demilitarisation of their education. Another world is possible!

A powerful, moving event, that left me (and I'm sure many of us) in tears... a space to hold hopelessness and hope at the same time, and to feel emboldened and strengthened, to keep going. Many thanks to the organisers and speakers #freePalestine @thesociologicalreview.org @anilsghost.bsky.social

Thinking this morning of the vital importance of trans-specific and trans-led youth work, LGBTQ+ youth work, and trans-inclusive open youth work for all. While the implications of the UK Supreme Court ruling remain unclear, the sector must actively support our trans young people and youth workers.
