Are memories in your brain distributed or local? How did early experiments in the late 1940s address this? Join me this week with neuroscientist Nicole Rust (nicolecrust.bsky.social), author of "Elusive Cures", as we discuss the modern emerging picture of the brain.

Found one in the wild! Models of the language network in a published paper in a (presumably) predatory journal.
I think I'd be concerned if a patient had four anterior temporal lobes in their lert hemisphere, it might affect their conprehension

Last year I was told by a selection committee for a professor position that my sample lecture was "postgraduate level" (meaning: not clear enough). If otherwise, I'm sure they would have said "not serious enough"
Just decline the peer review invitation.
What are you people even doing?

I know he was in last week as well but this might be the most important read of the week. An iconic piece of research on scaffolding just failed replication and @carlhendrick.substack.com has all the details and what it might mean here.

We are currently preparing a large scale up of moderators to deal with the big backlog, which has built up to a truly unacceptable size. Again, please accept our apologies, and perhaps also take this as an invitation to join the moderation team? We need all hands on deck. bsky.app/profile/impr...

🌟 This week I'm curating the @weare.rladies.org account! 💜
I’ll be sharing bits and pieces from the R world — things I find interesting, helpful, or just fun to think about.
Come say hi, share what you're up to, or just drop by for some good vibes! 🦄

Jesica Formoso, Researcher at National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) | MetaDocencia. They say, "I’m currently using R in my research on reading comprehension at CONICET and for survey analysis as Impact Measurement Lead at MetaDocencia, while also participating in the Forwards R Package Development Workshop summer school because I am starting to develop a package for Spanish readability assessment and this is new for me."
This week's #RLadies curator is @jformoso.bsky.social 🥳
Does anyone else find it perpetually annoying that what most folks would consider neural "computation" is Marr's "algorithmic" level, while his *computational* level is really just "what's the goal of this thing anyway?" AKA function.
New conceptual review + tutorial on text embeddings out in #APA_Journals w/ @almogsi. Beginner-friendly, but experts will find spicy new takes as well. Tag a colleague who’s still counting words... #RStats #tidyverse #quanteda

Needed: An app that automatically extracts references from student papers (or authors who use references) and checks whether they exist or not, and whether the DOI matches the title and authors listed in the paper.
No AI (a prerequisite), but a standard database(s) search.
An analysis of ~100,000 academics finds that a small subset of academics generate majority of social media posts.
That vocal minority can skew how the public—and even journalists—infer “academic consensus,” potentially fueling false perceptions. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
