Reports of unhoused people having frozen to death over the last week are trickling in.
Dead under a bridge from the cold in the richest country of the history of the world.
This was preventable. This is policy choice our government chooses every day.
Policies designed by people with no experience or education in homelessness are doomed to fail. The problem is that these ghouls also don't care if their policies fail.
All last week, our volunteers have been handing out tarps and plastic sheeting to people before the rain while the Trump administration slashed housing funding. Opponents of housing first apparently want work requirements for people who are disabled, seniors, or both.
A Latino family in L.A. sued over an illegal eviction. The landlord's lawyer, Rod Fehlman, warned in an email that they'd "likely be picked up by ICE and deported prior to trial thanks to all the good work the Trump administration has done."
The kicker? Every member of the family is a U.S. citizen.

Disgraceful. Without a judge's signature, landlords DO NOT have to comply with ICE subpoenas.

ICE has not slowed down and neither have the mutual aid volunteers in LA.

I saw this coming from a mile away and I blame the fascist gestapo but also the city governments who to this day throw away belongings like IDs, passports, and birth certificates week after week.
Confirmed today: ICE is taking unhoused people who are unable to produce documents from the street to fulfill their quotas. People too poor to have any documentation on them, unable to prove where they come from.
A human rights disaster in the process.

If you want more American flags at protests, you are welcome to go to the protests and fly one. No one will stop you. You yourself can create that picture of tolerance and pluralism.
But don't sit on the sidelines and tell a community under racist assault not to assert its right to exist.
Gov. Newsom is demanding that every city in CA criminalize homelessness. Knowing we don't have any permanent housing for people to go into. Knowing we only have 39 shelter beds per 100 ppl. Knowing rent is at an all time high and people are spending their entire checks on rent.
How about 100 million American renters vs 10 million landlords 👀👀
If a "housing advocate" never says a word about the inherent parasitic relationship between landlords and tenants you can disregard anything they have to say.

It's pouring rain in LA - so bad that people's tents are collapsing. In a healthy society, there would be warming centers every couple blocks, with vans driving around taking people there, but instead, there is nothing.

Fremont passes controversial homeless ban that also prohibits 'aiding' or 'abetting' camps
Fremont CA has passed a measure banning homeless people from existing in public - they'll face citation and jail.
They also have criminalized anyone HELPING people living in these camps.
We're headed down a dark road where helping your unhoused neighbors is prohibited.
With almost 1 million ppl on the streets, the priority of the new Secretary of HUD is limiting transgender people from accessing shelter.
This administration does not give a single fuck about lowering rent prices or protecting renters or anything actually helpful to the poor.

I will also point out that even tho I can't fix everything, she now has warm clothes, a sleeping bag, and a tent.
You can do this in your community, too. With whatever you have - a blanket, a sandwich, a water bottle.
Anything you can give is more than they have right now.
DV and related family violence is the most common reason I hear from women out on the streets. A lot of the times, the abuser also controls them financially and socially, which means they have zero friends, family, or funds + bad/no credit, leaving them trapped + unable to leave.
My heart breaks for women in violent and deadly relationships just because they can't afford to rent an apartment and live alone.
Landlord greed literally kills women.
I asked if she wanted to go to a shelter, and she said she was sexually assaulted by a security guard last time she was at one, so she prefers to stay outside and sleep with her back to a wall.
We are doing absolutely nothing for these people who need safety and protection.
Gave a tent to an older woman today. She was shivering and soaking wet in the rain. DV victim. Got almost beaten to death and escaped by climbing out a window at night two mos. ago, and can't pay rent alone. She's on a waitlist for a low income unit. Told it will take 6 years.
NEWS: Sources tell me that DOGE is setting its sights on the Department of Labor next. DOL workers have been ordered to give DOGE access to whatever they ask for—or risk termination.

I’m not sure exactly how the NLRB processes showings of interest and what document retention or recording occurs, but I’d be very worried about Elon Musk and DOGE potentially having access to petitions filed by workers seeking to organize.
