Nigel Farage invests £215,000 in Kwasi Kwarteng’s bitcoin firm Reform UK leader strengthens ties with crypto sector with stake in former Tory chancellor’s company Stack BTC

🫠 Good to see politicians committed to public service rather than their personal bank accounts.

As a Brexiter, he tried to hand wave away the basic facts of the UK’s geography, so I’m not surprised to see him dismissing our geology with the same haughty ignorance.*

Fracking: if Liz Truss wants a major shale gas industry, she is 280 million years late Britain was once sat on huge gas reserves, but most of it leaked away long ago.

As usual Jacob Rees-Mogg is wrong.

'Britain is different from the US. Its geological history has provided many opportunities for gas to leak away. Only the dregs remain. If the UK wants a major US-style fracking industry, it's 280m years too late".' #politicslive

Massive humiliation for Farage, who tipped off the UK press that he was flying to Florida to have dinner with Trump... only for Trump to decide he had more interesting things to do when Nigel arrived.

Tim Shipman accused me the other day of not knowing how to “political journalism works”.

Well, the modus operandi is clear for all to see. Unattributed briefings to channel, without responsibility, whatever undeclared agenda a source or political journalist wants to pursue

Thailand-based crypto investor makes second multi-million pound donation to Reform Reform UK received a second multi-million pound donation from businessman Christopher Harborne in the final quarter of 2025.

Seems ungrateful of Reform to be flying the Union Jack, rather than the Thai flag, given that most of the money keeping Reform UK Limited afloat comes from a Thai-based crypto bro.

Entitled knobhead Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Entitled knobhead Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Once again the BBC upholds its ignoble tradition of inviting on to one of its flagship current affairs/news programmes a right-wing commentator who already has his own show on a right-wing TV channel. If entitled knobhead Jacob Rees-Mogg has something to say, he can say it on Talk TV.

You'd be hard pressed to find a worse example than Philip Johnston in the Telegraph, citing the Suez crisis to make his point, but ignoring the obvious points that:
•Suez underlines the fact that the UK has not been in a "special relationship" with the USA since at least 1956

It’s wild how the most prominent pro-fossil fuel politician on the planet is busy manufacturing an unarguable reason for everybody else to wean themselves off fossil fuel dependency as quickly as humanly possible.

This is an absolutely huge jump in oil prices.

It's also why Europe needs to get off fossil fuels asap (beyond climate change impact). We can't be beholden to this.

“…when you *lose* a by-election“?

Hang on Matt, I thought you were calling the result into doubt? I distinctly remember you crying about how “family voting” & Muslim voters unfairly being brainwashed into voting against you cheated you of your rightful victory.

Ah yes—Matt Goodwin's attempt at humour to salvage a shred of dignity after acting like a complete twat since losing the by-election.
A bit late for damage control though — the “face-saving” tour doesn’t seem to be fooling anyone.

My hunch: at some random point when Trump’s miniscule attention span has been exceeded, he’ll declare himself the winner & stop.

That’s the least worst outcome. Worse would be unanticipated consequences where the US gets itself in too deep to find a face-saving off ramp.

There are no good outcomes

One outcome is that Trump withdraws, accepting his impotence — and, goodness knows, we all know he almost certainly is and that’s what a lot of this is about — or we go for the other option and plod on politely towards Armageddon.

When even a corrupt feudal autocracy is distancing itself from the unfolding Iranian disaster, you’d hope that the noisy chorus of UK politicians & media loudmouths urging the UK govt to get thoroughly entangled in this mess would pipe down for a moment’s quiet reflection.

But they won’t.
