Check out #DeArktiskeReddere about #Greenland's search and rescue team
Gripping, well filmed + sensitive on difficult topics.
Mostly in Danish or with subtitles but if you are at all interested in Greenland, it's worth seeking out.

A very worthwhile long read on how different State actors are trying to undermine European democratic values.
"small, deniable physical actions are rapidly followed by coordinated online activity designed to confuse the public, assign blame and undermine trust in authorities and the wider system."
Yellow bird with black face and red eye, all puffed out and slightly damp.
Let me start a belated thread of Aotearoa New Zealand silvan birds.
To lead things off, a New Zealand Bellbird photographed on Kapiti Island.

academia very badly needs people who are neither dogmatically anti-AI nor credulous boosters. the potential is real and the problems are very real. but many critics refuse to even engage with the question of the how and when the things work in the first place.
Hah interesting: electric cars are significantly cheaper in Denmark and Sweden (for once), and it's likely mostly due to a much larger market share and more competitive market, although Sweden has a bigger market overall.
Just read a template letter that ended, "thank you for your attention in this matter", and almost vomited. There's a phrase that needs to be retired...
Preprint here btw: egusphere.copernicus.org/preprints/20...
Nice tanker laden with highly flammable liquid you have there. Be a shame if something happened to it...
Proud PhD supervisor moment: @eumetsat.int have nice write upof Elke Schlager's brilliant work, (now a preprint in #egusphere) on how we can use #MachineLearning methods to emulate #Greenland ice sheet melt via European Weather Cloud computing

Shout outs to blue sky + mastodon in today's @eurcorrespond.bsky.social, plus the role of misinformation as the War on Wind + Europe's economic heart is migrating S + E.
"Denmark generates 54% of its electricity from wind while maintaining a GDP per capita of $71,026 (the 12th highest globally)"

The strikes on Iran show why quitting oil is more important than ever
Electrification + renewables = energy that isnโt shipped through chokepoints.
Decarbonisation is national security.

I think about this Tony Benn speech much more than I used to
*good news. ๐
And time for some food news, Denmark establishes 2 new marine national parks in the รresund and the Lillebรฆlt sound
And neither will the rest of the world.
I am not happy to see nuclear proliferation back on the menu, but now that Denmark is somehow under the French nuclear umbrella, it's time to acknowledge how much #LogicOfWar (now also available in English!) got right.
Huge recommendation - it's horrifyingly clear sighted in how we have ended here
Jeg var overrasket nรฅr jeg lรฆste om atomvรฅben i @anderspucknielsen.dk's bog #KrigensLogik, men nu ser det nรฆrmest uhyggeligt clairvoyant..

All Europeans will pay the price for their leaders' reaction to the ๐บ๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฑ attack on Iran this weekend.
European leaders (all except Pedro Sanchez) have now accepted the end of international law.
The consequences of this will be felt not for weeks, not for years, but for decades
Mistral is the best European option. The trajectory is right. But "best European option" and "competitive with the frontier" are not the same sentence right now.
I'm rooting for Europe to close that gap. This hackathon just made it harder to be uncritically optimistic.
Ran both at the EU hackathon last week. Mistral was 2024-era friction - more correction, more scoping down. Useful, but Claude was in a different tier. My honest writeup: thoughts.jock.pl/p/mistral-ai...
Cool thanks. That's exactly what I wanted and I agree, we need an EU competitor desperately.
So part of the reason for asking for EU competition is that at least our grids are decarbonising and quite fast: Mistral is building centres in France and Sweden - but this technology is not going away and we really need to distinguish between slop LLMs and genuinely useful applications of ML
Absolutely my experience too. It needs careful checks but can easily enhance productivity on tasks that would otherwise be time dumps
