Anglesey History

Ink and paint picture of one side of a yellowy-brown stone box, standing on a plinth of there square-fronted stones, on a stone floor. The box has a central carved cross, within a ring, which is set above two semi-circles. Around the outside are several borders, of which the outermost have barley-sugar twists and the top has a zig-sag decoration.

It may have once been an altar containing the relics of St Peulan. If so, it would be the only surviving pre-Norman altar in Britain.
