This is an extraordinary speech, all the more so because it was written by the Prime Minister himself. It says something about how far we’ve fallen that neither in substance nor in tone could this speech have been delivered by the current occupant of the White House.

My career has been in criminal justice: formerly public defender and innocence protection attorney, and now chief prosecutor. Two things I’ve learned: full police power let loose on one group eventually turns on everyone; full police power is easy to turn on but nearly impossible to turn off.

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. The idea that there are Americans who are more “real” than others has always been a part of political conversation but it’s wild that it’s now mainstream to talk about so-called heritage Americans, which seems to be no more and no less than plain racism.
