Announcement graphic for the 2026 Troland Research Award featuring M. J. Crockett of Princeton University. On the right, a photo of M. J. Crockett, a person with short curly hair wearing a rust-colored shirt, smiling at the camera. On the left, a collage of research figures and diagrams representing their work. The dark green background displays the text "2026 Troland Research Award" at the bottom, with the National Academy of Sciences logo in the bottom right corner.
Huge congrats to our own @mjcrockett.bsky.social on winning the 2026 Troland Research Award from the National Academy of Sciences!
The award recognizes outstanding early-career researchers in experimental psychology. So well deserved!

Fantastic opportunity!
π¨Thrilled to share I am able to hire someone (PhD preferred) with coding expertise to work on our HAPPE software for EEG! Knowledge of Matlab, Python, and EEG signal processing required. Enthusiasm for teaching/mentoring, collaboration, and developmental science preferred!
Sending this around for people in different time zones. I'm keen for it to get as much reach as possible because I think there's a great need for something like this out there! See thread below it for details, and please share widely! :)
We are so lucky to have @mattgoldrick.bsky.social! Congrats, Matt!
Hello π
I say this more loudly today than any other day. I refuse to accept despair as the final response.
We are grateful to the editorial team at @cognitionjournal.bsky.social for a thoughtful and instructive editorial process.
In the paper, we don't propose a remedy (e.g., avoiding labels altogether or replacing them). Rather, we encourage scientists to be more descriptive and critical of the labels they choose. We hope that our community benefits from this article. Open access link: osf.io/preprints/ps...
In 2022, @savithry.bsky.social and I decided to work together to form a collective of language scientists who would come together to assess and evaluate the labels we use in language sciences. The ROLE Collective, which started with less than 10 members, has grown to include over 100 scientists.
In our recent manuscript, we invite cognitive scientists to be critical of the labels they choose to describe language users. We argued that the term native speaker is problematic as it distorts scholarly inquiry and introduces bias.

You were missed! I hope to see you at ASHA this year, Reinaldoπ
Ethan and Danica celebrating Danicaβs success
In 2020, I came to LSA in New Orleans as a 5th year PhD student. I was anxious, scared, and unsure about my future. In #LSA2026, my graduate student, Danica, presented her work on Korean-American accents and it was a humbling moment to experience how much six years can change your life.
Ethan looking at the Dubai chocolate with love
Oh, and we had more Dubai chocolate and the owner of the store now recognizes me as his regular customer.
Kelly and Ethan holding the LSA2026 sign
@kellykendro.bsky.social gave a fantastic talk on bilingualism today. We also stole the #LSA2026 sign for a photo.

Here as a proud mentor, I am cutting a Dubai chocolate themed brownie for Danica!
Hello #LSA2026 folks, my graduate student Danica Kim is presenting out work on #Korean-Americanβs perception in Korean-American English tomorrow at 9:30am. We have very interesting results on ethnic identity and its role on speech perception. We are in Bilingualism: Perception session.
hey, did y'all know that the Linguistic Society of America offers FREE registration to K12 teachers, K12 students, and Indigenous scholars of the Americas for the #LSA2026 Annual Meeting? And it's not too late to register for the hybrid/online portion of the conference!
The worst part is that I'm an early career scholar, and every publication counts. But on top of this all my co-authors are ECRs too with extremely delicate personal deadlines. We waited 11 months to receive feedback and we received none.
Thank you so much, Mark! I really appreciate it. I was not planning on sharing this experience because I thought it was an accident. But it seems like the pattern is becoming clear.
Thank you for sharing this! Recently, I decided to not submit our final manuscript which was accepted. We didnβt receive any feedback on our science and the only review we received was AI generated wording changes. It is the same journal. I emailed the editorial team too and I received no answer.

I was going to bring up pink trombone β οΈ Iβm dying!
Anymoreeeee!!! We need documentation of this unfolding story
Thatβs what Iβm hoping too because if there are many, @devezer.bsky.social , are you okay?
