2/ doesn't show up in the next run but in the one after that. Seventy miles is not a particularly long run once the race is settled in but it's a lot for a first run.

1/ In Iditarod, it looks like we've got four teams who ran straight through to Skwentna: Ryan, Kevin, Jason, and Brenda. We'll see how that works out. One of the best dog people I know told me that if a long run is going to cause problems, it
Real World Crypto (as in cryptography, not cryptocurrency) is happening at the same time as Iditarod. Great conference. I'm retired (and glad of it) but still crypto-interested. Fortunately Iditarod moves a lot more slowly than the conference.
Note that they actually camp, to rest the dogs, spending somewhere between three and five hours tending to the pups and grabbing some food, themselves. How they break up the race is one of the only pieces of strategy visible to us observers.
2/ The year Ryan won he ran Puntilla to Nikolai in two.
1/ Okay, in Iditarod it looks like a bunch of teams are setting up to make it to Finger Lake in two runs. From there, it's common for teams up front to make the it to Nikolai in three more runs, camping between Puntilla and Rohn and then Rohn and Nikolai
OMG - Anchorage Baptist Temple is notorious, even up here. Matt sounds like a mensch. I do know a lot of lefty Christians
Excellent op-ed!
That really is good!
They've had it ever since Trackleaders started doing it, so it's been a few years. I wish they'd show both trackers on the map, but Β―\_(γ)_/Β―
2/ shows only one. However, if you look at the actual track you can see all the updates. I don't know why, other than that writing good software is hard and developing good user interfaces is just as hard.
1/ And if you look at his path (which is possible but annoying with this tracker), you can see that one of this trackers sent out several bad updates. Note: There are two trackers on each sled, provided by Trackleaders. Trackleaders "splices" them together on their own maps, but Iditarod
Okay, here's what I think is going on with Wade - I think his tracker sent a bad update. The reason I think that is because his speed is unreasonable. He's not off the trail.
Right now Rohn is at right about the first spot where a lot of folks like to camp. Ryan's just about to another popular spot but I'm guessing he's going to run to Skwentna and take a break there.
In Iditarod, so far Jessie Royer has the fastest time into Yentna (she tends to be very fast early in the race). FWIW I think she still holds the record for 101 -> Central in the Quest, which is the leg running over Eagle Summit.
In the Iditarod, most experienced teams usually camp somewhere between Yentna and Skwentna. It's 70 miles from Willow to Skwentna, which is a lot to ask for a first run, and since checkpoints can be noisy and chaotic people like to stop somewhere where their dogs can actually get some rest.
Outstanding news for Alaskans, unless you drive a car, heat your home with oil, buy stuff that's trucked up or flown in from down south, or ...
Actually, Ryan's proving me wrong - looks like he's about 10 minutes out, which would put him a hair under 4 hours, I think
Easy-ish but I'd need to write a little code. Python has sets, which makes it really trivial to compare unordered data. I'll take a look at it this evening.
FWIW I've had the same response to him, and I'm Jewish. I'm glad he's got a moral core (that right there would be a happy change from the incumbent) but I'm wary of proselytizing.
Just learned that Country Joe McDonald died yesterday. I loved him when I was a teen. *Can't believe his work is relevant again ... )
Also in Iditarod, it looks like it's taking about 4.5 hours for the first team to arrive in Yentna, which is a little slow but not terribly so. That's not really a surprise given the snow situation.
If I were a betting person I'd bet that Ryan is going to run through Yentna, but I've got new clue whether or not he's going to run to Skwentna. If he does that's a hint that he's likely running his usual schedule.
RWC livestream has started at www.youtube.com/live/QQhyxFj...
It's quite odd but I don't think there's anything nefarious in there (other than sending someone really inexperienced down the Dalzell Gorge)
Well, he doesn't show up on the Willow timesheet, either. I can't believe they didn't have time to add him to the database. He does have a tracker.
2/ someone's not actually resting unless they've stayed put for more than a half hour or so. The two ways to check that out are 1) the replay, or 2) the "analytics"
1/ Between races I forget how truly uninformative the Iditarod tracker is. Looking at the reply, I'm reminded that they show someone as "resting" whenever their speed drops below a certain value. Unfortunately sometimes that's the result of GPS artifacts and measurement error. That is to say
Okay, problem sorted. Spreadsheet showing the number of times each musher was picked in Fantasy Iditarod, and the same data sorted by price group. A few surprises but mostly as expected
my profile pic from 5 years ago. i had pink eyeshadow wayy too much. eyeliner was almost decent. had a grey beret with a pin with a red/black star. and half of my hair was bright pink.
i came out publicly on intl. Women's Day 5 years ago. a few months later i got my hrt prescription at Planned Parenthood in Soldotna, Alaska. i knew the world hates trans people, but being true to myself and feeling love from people who really see me has been totally worth it.
