Film of the day: AN CAILÍN CIÚIN (THE QUIET GIRL, dir Colm Bairéad, 2021) Modest, observational period drama of rural childhood, shot with great attention to little details that mean a lot more than they seem to; the sense of experience and place is lovely, with a perfectly poised lead performance.

Pillion was absolutely excellent. After so much time being frustrated reading and seeing shallow stuff around…I went and saw a movie that was slow, careful, nuanced, difficult, and thoroughly adult. I loved it. It surprised me. I don’t want to spoil a thing more.

Love this shot of PAUL NEWMAN - born 101yrs ago today - and Joanne Woodward in 1955.
They were husband & wife for 50yrs, which is really something in general - but in Hollywood (when both were incredibly beautiful too!) nothing short of astounding.

Time for a reality check.
We’re all just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Evelyn Mitchell (played by LisaGay Hamilton) and Amanda Wagner (played by Sonja Sohn), on vacation and on the case on the TV police procedural Will Trent.
I would like to humbly suggest to the folks behind #WillTrent that I would watch the HELL out of a spin-off cozy-ish detective series where Amanda Wagner and Evelyn Mitchell retire and solve crimes.
If you were murdered and you could assign any tv detective in your will to find your killer, who would you pick?
As a bit of a font junkie, I love what they do with the title sequences in the Will Trent TV series.
Black Phone 2: surprisingly solid sequel.
Movie nails the early #1980s vibe. I tip my hat to whomever decided to show the old Universal logo at the start.

Quick JW Rebirth thoughts: the movie is perfectly fine, bordering on good, which makes it better than any other Jurassic World.
-Jonathan Bailey quite good, best part of the movie, a lil hammy at times
-ScarJo was outacted by everyone including the CGI dinos
-Mahershala Ali deserved more screen

If you’re anywhere near London you should make a point of seeing the Wes Anderson Archives at the Design Museum, because hoooooly smokes.

Watched Robert Zemeckis' "Here". Didn't love it, but did like it. One locked camera position, jumping back and forth in time with multiple families, a sobering (and upsetting) reminder of how finite our spans are.
Felt like a night at the theater, just with a gah-zillion dollars of VFX. #Filmsky
Watched Here over the weekend and loved it. I thought it was sweet and technologically amazing. Zemeckis can’t resist the occasional twee moment but I love what he achieved here in terms of advancing filmmaking. It didn’t deserve the criticism or lackluster box office numbers it received
