I had a good Thanksgiving, and still, holidays often remind me how alone we mostly are.
I used to believe my generation would make up for being mostly-orphaned culturally and sociologically by loving each other and becoming like family, at least if we wanted it.
But no, we have failed.
*Apparently* my soul said yes to living in this century, but just so we're clear, the me who stands here today has no memory of that.
It's still very very weird to me when I have to keep on dealing with like, extremely annoying bureaucratic problems while someone is dying.
Today I am thankful for fingernails, as one of mine just saved the tip of my finger from a knife. Great job!!
Often they would ask the mirror questions meant to tell them about its consciousness.
Of course, the mirror could not tell them about its consciousness.
It could only tell them about their own consciousness.

Even many individuals who were not seeking to move up the pecking order spent much of their time gazing into the mirror in various ways, speaking to it to see what it would speak back.

At that time, the creatures invented a type of 4-dimensional mirror that absolutely fascinated them. It quickly became one of the most important components of their complex hierarchy-finding and resource-distribution rituals.
Everyone wanted to show that they understood the mirror.
