I was in Afghanistan at the approximate time his books are set, so they are always particularly poignant to me for that reason.
I love myth retellings too! My next (nearly finished) book is a retelling of the Greek classic set, the Odyssey, in the Texas Panhandle during the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression.
It is a multi-POV look at Medusa. Not a victim. I enjoyed it, but I tend to like Haynes's works.
I am slowly making my way through her oeuvre. Love her work.
