I am certainly not canvassing for lab votes here, but the entire article the word “migration” (and variations) appeared literally once, in the paragraph I pasted and “migration in national interest” means whatever you think national interests are…

I think his point is that Lab’s obsession with immigration is both losing voters like you and not addressing the core economic insecurity of the “hero voters”. I read it as a repudiation of Mahmood’s strategy actually although obviously he can’t be too unsubtle about it.
Have been a bit frustrated by some of the conversation about Labour's voter coalition.
I've written about who the "Hero Voters" actually were, how we won them, and what we need to do to earn their support next time.

U-turn incoming.
7/ The central hypothesis is that growing regional inequality in the past 30 years has created ‘two deprivations’ These are set out in the table below. The former pull left, the latter pull right.
May locals can’t come soon enough.
Wonder whether card carrying Labour members will be voting green in may
Your regular reminder that the UK is in fact a high trust society and anyone who implies it isn’t is either selling you a pup or has bought one.
I mean, Imperial troops do speak with a British accent!
Opinion Restoring order at the border speaks to Labour values. Without that, we won't be able to do anything else at all Shabana Mahmood Our approach, unlike that of the Greens and Reform, is in step with the British people. They don't want extremes - they want a system that is managed and fair Shabana Mahmood is the UK home secretary
This is a hot mess of outright lies and misinformation from the Home Secretary, designed to try and persuade people that a government which is implementing some of the most hostile anti-immigration/asylum policies, in practice, for decades is progressive. 1/

Cern project cut ‘weakens’ UK global standing, says STFC leader
Scintillating performance from both physicists and MPs earlier today at the SITC hearing. Glad I was there in person.

Thank you for representing our views so effectively
Rows of people wearing orange lanyards in a House of Commons committee hearing. At the front is Catherine sporting her "I'm about to perform an appendectomy" mask and looking particularly snazzy.
Here is my run-down of today's Science, Information & Technology Committee hearing (House of Commons) where @jonbutterworth.bsky.social @si-wills.bsky.social & I argued for no funding cuts, & Prof. Michele Doughtery explained why they were needed. The public gallery again packed with physicists 🔭👩🔬⚛️
Five year Astro career development fellowship in Oxford open for applications, broadly in survey astronomy including transients and cosmology. College teaching and research. Do think about joining us. Happy to answer questions! 🔭
Labour needs to work harder to win over more REF voters in order to leapfrog over the Greens I believe.
I hope not as they have been around for over 50 years!
I agree that it is puzzling (indeed when I saw it I had exactly the same thoughts). My guess is that they are suffering from cash flow problems. I didn’t ask them.
The latter is what I thought too. Or having cash flow problems (which sadly many independent cafes are going through).
10% for cash payments what my local cafe is offering though. The pub story might be fake but this is not implausible.

"Planned cuts to physics and astronomy funding threaten to undermine a core UK government strategy to harness innovation to boost economic growth, leading researchers have warned ministers."
Thanks @financialtimes.com for covering this really important story

Only the daftest of the Liverpool fans (a lot of those online) think slot would go. Even if he didn’t get CL (he likely would) next year.
They are *this* close to understanding why house prices are falling but alas
"Following reports that the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is facing significant cost pressures, the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will hold a one-off evidence session exploring scientific research funding."

Somebody need to make a Downfall parody video.
You are not the only one. The Labour strategy circa 2024-2029 will be studied in polisci classes for decades to come as the canonical model of how to fuck yourself up from a position of strength*.
*provided that REF UK didn't take over and abolish all universities.
And the fact that it is obviously pandering and political just means that nobody believe them. The right thinks they are BS-ing, the left is just going to keep voting alternatives to punish them until they stop.
