I’ve only had it still sealed for 2 1/2 years, guess it’s time I finally read it.

So my theatre is weird: they freeze when I try to order 3 tickets for A Better Tomorrow last night for tonight… twice! (I tried twice to no avail each time)

…but they let me grab a single ticket for myself to see the Umamusume movie with zero issue?

Dylan's work has always been top tier (not just for HK cinema, but English translation of foreign films in general), but I think this might be his best work yet. It's an incredible track anyone who appreciates good subtitles will adore.

I’m not sure why the booklet mentions that first time viewers shouldn't watch it, and instead choose the edited default track. There's nothing hard to follow here; it all makes perfect sense and I can't imagine this much charm being removed to appeal to those who reject smart adaptation,

I watched in the original version (labeled as the alternate on the disc), and the way dialects and methods of speaking have been adapted to English is genuinely insane. I’m at a loss for words. There is such a fun, chaotic method of conveying the dialects and languages that matches the film itself.

I watched Peking Opera Blues for the first time last night and it’s one of the coolest films I’ve ever seen. Everyone should go and buy Arrow’s new 4K UHD, not just for the film, but the new translation by @dylancheung.bsky.social, which is one of the best I’ve ever seen (and want to discuss).

I absolutely loved the film, and your translation was fantastic. So much personality and charm to the script. Excellent, well adapted singable song lyrics were the icing on the cake. Amazing work!

My holiday is over

I somehow made it through another year.

Nobody knows what the future has in store, so here's to hoping 2026 will work out better for us all.

December 16th.

It was a morning so cold, it felt like if you were to hit the earth with an ice pick, it would break into nice clean chunks.

I haven't seen anyone post the restoration credits for Angel's Egg yet, so given how rare these tend to be, here;

Being able to rewatch probably my favorite movie of all time for the first time in a theatre and via an original 35mm print has been one of the greatest filmgoing experiences of the year. I loved every minute and it was absolute heaven seeing it in the big screen in this way.

I was asked to check, and the French subtitles are probably the older script, with only some of the on-screen text translated into French.

Anyways, compression is very good. Insanely high bitrate with no encoding issues. I just wish the on-screen text translations were PGS subs.

This film has a lot of on-screen text in typical Anno fashion. To combat that, the English translations of on-screen text are burned in and typeset (exact same styling as the recent theatrical reissue), while the dialogue is PGS subtitles.

A massive order I made back in March which I’ve nicknamed “the order from hell” due to numerous titles in it being delayed over and over again finally arrived. I don’t post my “hauls” here anymore (not even my birthday one), but this was so amazing I couldn’t.

The surreal nightmarish action drama four episode OVA series is getting a new release after being out of print for a very long time!

The new release will also include the existing English dub.

It'll be a 2 disc set with all 12 episodes of the Osamu Dezaki classic featuring the beloved Osamu Tezuka character.

Both widescreen and open matte versions of the episodes will be included, plus the English dub.

I was doing a movie with Tsui Hark (and Oliver Stone's producer, A. Kitman Ho), back in 1997. A live action adaption of "Lupin III", that we would have done with Jim Carrey. Alex Ho (lovely, lovely man) ended up losing the rights, so it never happened. Craziest screenplay I ever wrote! #scriptsky
