I was cast in Heavenly Creatures at 15 and I really think that the fact I had watched David Lynch (and Mike Leigh) movies over and over had prepared me for that work. Because I knew what it looked like when an actor fully committed and was supported by a filmmaker who was willing to go there also.

Lynch's last contribution to film playing john ford in spielberg's the fablemans (final scene most notably) is something you can't make up. It's ironic therefore, so on brand.

I feel like there’s this inversion in America where someone like David Lynch is always seen as an outsider artist, yet his vision of America was more truthful and authentic to our lives here than so so much of mainstream successful culture.
