Uncovering history across Maine. I detect properties for owners to showcase their history by finding items lost by past inhabitants. Credited with discovering a Militia/Civil War muster field in ME. Posts about Maine history and things that interest me.

It's the answer of someone who doesn't value human life. Definitely a sociopath
3/5/1963 The Hula Hoop, a hip swinging toy that became a huge fad across America is patented by Wham-o. An estimated 25 million Hula Hoops were sold in its first four months of production alone. This makes me think of one of my all time favorite movies The Hudsucker Proxy!
Another 6" of snow.. But, next week is a big warmup! Multiple days in the 60's! My 2026 season will start soon!
Puritans are lame. Witchcraft is cool.
3/1/1692 Arrest warrants were issued for Sarah Good, Sarah Osborne, and Tituba, beginning the Salem witch trials. Accused of practicing witchcraft, harming young girls through invisible forces, and making a pact with the Devil. In Puritan New England, witchcraft was a capital crime.
I'm all for it!
Some men aren't even good once..
(This is just a post about history, I did not find these pins)
2/27/1951 the 22nd Amendment is ratified. It officially limits U.S. presidents to two terms in office, a direct reaction to Franklin D. Rooseveltβs unprecedented four-term presidency. I'm currently very glad the 22nd Amendment exists.
It's crazy to think that there are places that have been abandoned like that in the US, but there are a lot.
Thanks. I did tumble the bottle for a bit to remove a lot of the surface scratching.
Frostilla Holmes' Fragrant bottle circa 1890-1910. Produced in Elmira, NY. This was a hand and face cream that was promoted as not greasy. They were one of the first companies to publicly disclose their ingredients, and actually gave instructions on how to make it yourself.
You should do it! There's history to be found everywhere!
Presented some if the items I found last season on one of my farm spots here in Maine to the property owners. They were very excited to see all the history recovered from their fields for the 4th year in a row!
Sun, please melt all of this nonsense. I'm ready for spring so I can start digging!
Grok said this is true.
February 12, 1834 is listed as Paul Bunyanβs birthday on an oversized birth certificate hanging in City Hall, which is also the founding date of Bangor. Bangor Maine was regarded as the lumber capital of the U.S. at the time. Commissioned as part of Bangorβs 125th-anniversary celebration in 1959.
Snack time for Lila!
2/7/1978: The blizzard of '78 hits the US from the Midwest New England. A level 5 extreme blizzard with wind gusts up to 100MPH, thunder&lightning, snowfall around 4"/hr. Some places got over 4' of snow, and snow drifts of 25'. 5 days later I was born. Close call.
Thanks for the concern though..
Not required. Theres a solution in the water called tsunami that kills any pathogens/bacteria.
Not my usual content, but check out this cool new greens wash line at the farm!
The loss of amazing Canadian superstar Catherine O'Hara hits hard. I'll be spending this cold weekend rewatching some of her works. My viewing list is Home Alone 1&2, Schitt's Creek, Waiting For Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Beetlejuice 1&2, Six Feet Under, A Nightmare Before Christmas. RIP
The two crows in unison are greatπ
Thank you! It was still there on the way back, completely unconcerned with my presence.
Was just having a short stroll and heard a thumping noise. About 12 ft away this pileated woodpecker is feasting on some grubs in this dead tree before the big storm rolls in here in Maine.
If God disapproved he would have stopped itπ€·ββοΈπ€·ββοΈ
On this day in 1785 the town of Paris Maine was incorporated. I don't have any finds associated with Paris Maine, but this coin from France was found by an old cellar hole in the Maine woods. This is an 1801 Treaty of Amiens Peace token. This is while Napoleon was in power.
Sorry, no artifacts or history stories today. This is Finch. Finch likes eating sweet potatoes.
Thats awesome.
